The competition is bringing their simulator to PS4 and XBOX in July. How long will it be till Trainz goes there? Would be cool.

I would think that surveyor and route building, would be impossible, and the game would be a "Run Only" session like Grand Theft Auto V video game

Why would the Trainz team overstretch themselves by having to produce for even more platforms !
Its already been noted on other forums that to keep costs in check would probably mean the competition having to partially dumb down their program so that it runs smoothly on the lowest performing machine .

This is the point where N3V can steal a march on its rival by providing a bigger and better version of Trainz , especially as the ongoing lack of editors in the competitions newer sim is slowly strangling sales and player fatigue is from all accounts setting in !!

IMHO The Civilization franchise is one of the best ever. They did a port for consoles and it was a bust.

I'd rather see time (money) spent on making the desktop interface better.

  • Allow a second screen to be used for the dropdowns like the items list, and the picklist. Allow resizing of these to make it a little easier for those of us whose aging eyes have to squint. Just making the dropdowns movable and resizable (box and text) would work.
  • Improve the Driver Setup methodology.
  • Better error reporting capabilities in Driver. The current "Show Message Overlay" is pretty useless as the messages fade out quickly.
  • Clearly show which layer is "active".

The current iOS and Android (soon to be revived) versions of Trainz are "dumbed down" versions of TS12 for PC/MacOSX. The uploading of layouts on the DLS created in these mobile versions is a constant source of complaints in these forums. IMHO the release of XBox, PS or Nintendo, etc versions will only increase the complaints. Plus financially it would be a big risk for a very very small niche market on those platforms. From what I have seen, the clientele of those platforms seems to be only interested in arcade and "shoot-em-up" type games.

PS4 and Xbox is a huge marketing gamble for DTG. The old Densha de Go games were popular on the consoles in Japan because at the time train simming was the quirky in thing in the Japanese arcades. Times moved on and Taito dropped the titles like a stone a few years back. They were only really popular in the west as those of us who bought them out of curiosity and butchered our consoles to get round the regional protection.

DTG are probably desperate for sales of anything at this point after the collapse of Flight Sim World and (supposedly) considerable money owed to MS for the now abandoned development rights.

And TSW - even on the PC - while having a few interesting features such as timetable structure and FPS interaction with the environment, as an actual technical simulation of train running and operation, just sucks.

Didn’t know about that. Ouch!

It was all over the flight sim forums though Avsim since "archived" their TSW section to the bottom of the board. There's a fair bit of politics involved which probably best not to go into here (other than mentioning a certain P3D which most hobby users shouldn't be playing anyway), but the lesson going forward is here yet again was a developer that didn't listen to their customer base and thought they knew best. They sold early access on the basis of using player feedback to produce a better game. However there were no passenger jets, no IFR and far too long to move the game forward. PR soundbites were delivered in response to searching questions and with lackluster sales, Jackson and his "cabinet" decided to pull it. A shame as there was potential but the bottom line is, DTG and Steam took quite a bit of money up front for something they only about 55% delivered. (Didn't offer 45% refund, though). :)

It would suck. With all the garbage that comes with the mobile versions of Trainz I'd hate to see what comes out of console. Also:

You think gimme pigging is bad now? Wait till the game comes out on console and a bunch of kids get their hands on the game after hijacking Daddys saving account. Of couse they'll wanna know if there are mods for the game, and when they find out that such a thing does exist the forums will be filled with children demanding that their favorite engines be made. It will be hell. It will be a bunch of 2016 Ktain.ny's running around the forums. Think that over.
