What's your favourite railway era?

Wonderfully Old Fashioned
I'm curious to see. :p
Mine's before the modernization era(Full steam ahead..:hehe:) and the Modernization era, but when steam worked alongside...though it's really just because I like the old diesels and electrics working alongside the equally old steamies.... :hehe:

I didn't include years, but I wouldn't mind if others included years if it's a perticular era.. E.G The War Era(1914-18 or 1939-45) for example..

I don't just stick with one era ... I combine all the eras from the Canal period 1810 to 1970, and include all the interlockings that ever were there ... I would never be satisfied with a partially ripped up 2 and 3 track NS main as it is today, from Phila, to Harrisburg, to Pittsburgh ... there are no abandoned lines on my maps

I would like to model the very early PRR where there were only 1 or 2 tracks around the Horseshoe curve, and all the switch's were stub points

I'm not sure if I can answer this one. I tend to go all over the place, era-wise. I probably run more trains from in between 1930 and 1975 than any other period, although I realise that encompasses quite a lot! One day I might run some 1930s LNER stuff, and the day after I might prefer to run some Penn Central GG1s on the NEC in the 70s! I can honestly say however I don't run much post-1990 stuff- not sure I get the appeal of the modern era.
I think overall this forum is split 50/50, one half prefering modern railway operations and the other preferring historic ones, although I think the Steam and early diesel/electric people now slightly outnumber the modern image crowd.
