What's happened to Vulcan?

Talking about Vulcan/Ian Manion.

I don't inhabit the Community forum much, so maybe I missed some big announcement, but I've noticed that Vulcan doesn't seem to be uploading creations any more. Does anyone know why? I hope/trust he's OK and starts making things again.

Hi Deane,

last saw Ian a couple of weeks ago, he is doing some stuff on his "real" model layout. Should see him next Tuesday for our meet.
If he does not reply before I'll let him know.

Cheers,

Bill.

Hi Deane,

All I know is that his last post was 06-03-09 and his most recent uploaded creation was last November. Like you, I hope all is well with Ian.

I will try and get to that, I know I've been slack.:hehe:

Hi guys, thanks for the interest.

I had been taking some time off from Trainz models, I need to get some interest back.

With problems on the DLS some time ago (all new rolling stock being classified as Reskin, and version 2 models not being accepted by the DLS if there had never been an earlier version uploaded) I lost some interest. With changes to TRS2009 I expected to have a number of models to update, and was not looking forward to spending time on older models - hard to remember what to export for the various parts of a model.

Users were exceeding my website bandwidth, by about 3 gb a month, I have a large number of pictures on each of my webpages, particularly the project ones. My site provider suggested they would charge me $40 per gb if I did not moderate that, so I have had to lower the quality of nearly all my pictures, and re-upload, to get users transfer below the limit, it has taken some time. :(

The ore ships and Hulett loader had been finished with the exception of the gantry loader, which I cannot get the script correct to both load and unload ships. I did not want to upload any of the models until I had a system that would also work in TRS2009. I guess I should get back and finish those models, if I can now remember what I had to do. :o

There are also some Brisbane bridges to upload, and I have updated my maintenance rolling stock, so I could start with those.

Our local group is still very active, and that is an encouragement to take up the creative tools again - (expect to see you again Col, Bill is always a good attendee).

Thanks for asking, appreciated.

Ian

It's good to know that Vulcan will still be around with more great assets to come, and on on note to you, Deane, thanks for all those derelict assets, they are things that I have been looking for for a long time, they are very greatly appreciated.

Alex.

Hi Ian & Deane,

One could hardly accuse either of you of a dereliction of duties, as you both have done so much
in so many ways over quite some time for the Trainz Community.
Often on a personal level. We are indebted to you & several other like members.

However Deane, it behooves me to say (I always wanted to say that! :hehe: ),
that your duties of dereliction are magnificent.
Please continue being demonstrably derelict in your work!:Y:

Ian thank you for your diligence, & all the 'behind-the-scenes' things you have had to do,
to enable us to enjoy your work (resizing pics to gain bandwidth etc).
It is appreciated muchly. :D

Firstly to Ian, thanks for staying in touch.

A case of 'creative burn out' is quite understandable, especially given how prolific you've been in the past and the complexity in many of your objects. I would let TS2009 take care of itself rather than face the tedious prospect of 'upgrading' old things to suit it (from what I've seen of bump- and normal maps, they don't justify all the hype and extra megabytes, but that's my personal taste I guess).

Anyway, we all look forward to your return once the urge truly grabs you again. Don't do it out of a sense of duty!

Noel, Alex, thanks for your kind words. If you think of any more subjects for the derelict series, please let me know, as I am starting to run out of ideas again. Texture-worthy pictures are especially effective at sparking my interest, since it relieves me of the task of scouring the net!

Perhaps Deane needs a new name:
Dinorius_Derilecticus :)

or perhaps...

"Dinorius_Derilecticus_Magnificus" ! :D

Deane, both your work & S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s is in a league of it's own.
Most impressive, & brings a realism until recently not so easily achievable.

Ian,

I think some Trainzers tend to forget that we maintain our web sites at our own expense, both in time and dollars.. Yours has been most helpful to me, with tutorials, and information as well as updates on your fabulous content.

And not forgetting your contribution to the Content Creation Guides, most of which would not exist without your efforts.

I'm glad you remembered the Brisbane River Bridges.. I look forward to those very much.

Regards,

I'd cherish the Hulett whether it was a static model or not! Glad you're okay Ian, you were always one of the best!

Thanks guys,

Uploaded the Victoria bridge last night, seems to have got through the auto check process, so perhaps it will be available soon. I will have to try the other models, perhaps this week.
