What's going on here?

Hello;
TS2010 SP1.
I have laid out a mainline with two sidings. I am using the JK Junction Kit, and have set the height for the junction and the invisible track (JK junction wires). Everything is great.

Then, by chance I happen to change the ground height near, but not on the track, and this happens.
Note that you can see the white circle outline where I used the height adjustment tool, and that it is not on the junction object at all.
If I hit the undo arrow, only the height adjustment is undone, not the track.

This happens if I raise or lower the ground near the track (but not on it, and not close enough that it would change the height of the junction object).

I wish there was a way to lock the height of any object, like there is for track.

There is a thread somewhere in the last couple of months indicating that 'locked' object height is on the list of future improvements. IIRC the changes required were pretty simple and it might be in a service pack, but please don't take that as Gospel without searching out the original thread...

You can rotate those juncions by clicking rotate and hold shift(or is it control.) That will give you small adjustments for unlevel ground. They rotate both ways.2D in fact. Try quick clicks with the spline level tool. Probably just one click.

FW,

When I'm tampering with my layout (a renamed copy of the Marias Pass Approach, but with 1950s trains) and I see tracks getting buried, I put splines in the original track, then splines alongside those in the new track, and bring the new track's splines up to the original track's height. Use the Get Heights and Apply Height Tools in the Track Tab.

Be sure that you correct for either track veering off course as you lay down the splines. Use the track straightening tool in Track Tab. Long, unsplined track lengths are really annoying when it comes to this happening.

You may also have to place splines in the new track close to each switch to adjust the last few feet up to the original track's height.

Hope this helps.

I think those junctions can not go up a grade ! ? ! They only work on flat baseboards, or flat sections of terrain.

If you were to put your track in a "track" layer and then lock the layer, would you not be able to adjust terrain independently?

This happens with a lot of objects and not just track. What I do is go into the terrain adjust tool and click on get height. I then click on the same place again and apply the same height. The objects then drop down or jump up to where they're supposed go.
