What's a good PC to run Trainz 2010?

Now T:ANE I can get into
Hey all!

I'm looking into getting back into Trainz, and this time, I want to do it right. With my birthday a few months away, I think I'm going to hit the family up for a new PC (And a copy of TRS2010, of course), and I was wondering, what kind of PC should I look for? I'd preferably like one I can just take out of the box and install the simulator onto with minimal upgrading and whatnot.

Thanks, hope to be seeing you all soon... :D

:hehe: Thought that might be a tad more than you were thinking of. :D
Have a look at some of the posts on the 'Parts & Labour' section, some of the more techie lads on there have good info on what the best machines for Trainz needs, it will give you an idea of what to look for in spec. lists.

You're probably not going to get a very good pre-built system. You will pay dearly for having the thing pre-assembled.

Take a look at this:

I'd change out a few parts, not the least of which is the hard drive and the motherboard, and I'm a little leery of brand-spanking-new lines of products, which the P67 is. But the point is you can get a nice system for a good price.

Correct me if I'm wrong (which I usually am) but isn't the GTX450 GPU one of the original "Power & Heat" monsters"?

Nope it isn't and it's actually a GTS 450, I have one here an Asus, it runs cool. According to a few benchmarking sites power consumption is lower than a 460 as is the heat under load. It's basically half a 460 with an obvious lower performance but perfectly OK for Trainz, more of an entry level 400 series card I guess. I got it cheap, ex display for half of the retail price and it will do until the 500 series come down a bit in price.

Pricewise at normal prices the 460 is about £15 more in the UK so that would be a much better option.
