What the.......

Eh? I can't hear any sound browsing the forums. Whereabouts exactly do you hear these sounds play (what forum sections I mean)?

Maybe you have a piece of malware or a virus on your system which is playing random sounds? (I'm viewing the forums with Firefox running Adblock and Noscript in the background which usually stop nasties like that).

It's the same sound you get in Win OS when finished with a download! It's also happens in Surveyor and Content Manager. It's specific to Trainz content only. It also freezes the mouse momentarily.
It may be my own computer software doing something.............but it may also be from an external source over the internet, and that has me concerned somewhat!

Your computer is likely notifying you about unimportant things, such as download completions, etc. Turn off your sound scheme, and it'll go away.

Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Change System Sounds>Sounds>Sound Scheme: No Sounds

Hope this helps!

I agree! Einstein called it 'Spooky action from a distance'..........
Started yesterday............and it sure is spooky.................!
Molecular attraction in the virtual world?

.....heck are those two 'banjo' notes i've been hearing on the forums since yesterday afternoon? ..................

G'day,

Be afraid, be very afraid, coz next it wil be voices!
I suggest you consult the nearest shrink ASAP.:hehe:

Have a good one,
E.C.

Ulmer94 pointed me to the system sound manager. I checked all the WIN7 sounds and it's the 'device disconnect' sound I hear. (Yes it's a two note banjo tone......) If someone were trying to tap into my wireless would I get that sound at disconnect?

(Spooky action at a distance, again.......)

it's more likely something like your mouse plug getting physically knocked out of contact and then back in.

Hey, I've been hearing them, too. Since about a week or so ago. I thought it was just my computer...

Cheers,

Dave

Not that this may happen, but I also heard the two-tone 'device disconnect' and 'device reconnect' tones. A week later, my motherboard started smoking and a capacitor blew over near the USB chips. When I checked, the 5v was down to just over 4v. Turned out one of my external USB HDs was going bad - luckily the smaller one.

I checked all device temps and voltages.....seems ok.
I checked all connectios (external)....seems ok
I found an 'unknown' device with no drivers. I don't believe this is my new ssd drive, because that shows up in device manager and operating correctly.
How can I find out what it is?????
The sound comes only when on internet!!!!!

More spooky action at a distance!

If you remove the unknown device using Device Manager and reboot does it come back again?

Well, I've been turning off the bings and bongs since Windows 3.0, so I wouldn't get any sounds. I do notice that this is the only website I visit regularly that I get the "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page", so possibly it's the redirecting that's causing the noise.
