What road comes closest and where find arrows etc

Ever since TRS2004 i wondered why the typical US "concrete grayish or asphalt gray" just a name not has been made yet!

All are dark or black asphalt roads and LP is the only one come close but no markings alike no crossings etc.

Thought about using ground texture and spline(ouch)markings but still no arrows etc and .....ok what you think????

I call these roads type concrete as they are I remember concrete slabs!

thanks for any input

The roads are actually darker than what you see from the air, Roy. The sun is reflecting off of the asphalt as it's called, making it look a lot lighter than it is.

I tried the paint and lines, but that was painful and never came out like I thought it would. Then I discovered Maddy's YARN series of roads. Her YARN roads have the closest texture that I can find, and being thick don't float as badly as the LP roads do.

Another good road series is the AASHTO roads by George Fisher (GFisher), and those by BNSF50. I mix them all depending upon what I want to them for. Maddy's road, by the way, are easily modified too. Recently I made some thick cobblestone roads to use as cobblestone areas around my tram line engine houses, and in front of stations and wharfs. I modified the config file to remove the traffic from the roads because I didn't want cars blasting out of walls at random times.

With these roads being thick, it makes laying rails into the surface without them sticking up too high. I've also take some rails-only and buried it part way into the other roads as though the crossing or line was abandoned.

Yes John

Yes these are the ones over the years I use combined like you but Yarn is the easiest but still to dark for me.
Lotharhake comes closest with the LP concrete series splines.
Maybe we ask Streadway if he can make an addition to his yarnish with LP concrete gray set like the LP road.

Thanks again John,

Hello Roy:

Different shades (ages) of asphalt, concrete, and possibly other pavement materials is one of my main goals in my YARN2 project. Generally, the darker asphalt it, the newer it is, with close to black being understandable for fresh asphalt.

That shade and condition of asphalt looks familiar to roads around my area, and is probably a shade for asphalt that is not quite vintage, but could be as new as a few years.

You may have heard back in my YARN2 thread in the latest posts in it about a set of asphalt textures (shades) that I had made and needed to get in to Trainz. Well, I have made 6 shades so far, made before that post. :p Those have made progress as far as the folder setup in Trainz, but the config.txt files and stuff need to get set up for many/most of them I believe, so I can get them set up here soon and post some screenies in my thread to see what you think. :) Maybe I can get some "initial" roads out the door in the near future, which might be best anyway given how long this project could take. ;)

I have heard of Streadway's update and am curious about what he has added to the original system. I do not believe that I have really seen his new additions, for I can not look on the DLS without an FCT (I want TS2010). Whatever they are I bet that they are good and would download them and try them out with the original YARN system (I still want TS2010). Maybe it would be good enough to drag me back into the original YARN from GFisher's two excellent road systems. :p

Yea, there might be a good delay between updates on my project, but (hopefully) good things can come to those who wait, so patience is the key, especially with me :p, but again I might be able to get the system gradually released as it progresses. ;)

Regards.

Hi Retro

yes i love to have the grayish older concrete slabs look and stuff you talk about and yes i dl all of streadway his stuff and looks good only for all dark to dark for me i love the google and real look I remember from old times.
Why not go for TS12. 2010 is not even close to what 12 can offer you really try to go that extra step if possible.
I can test the yarn for you if you want.

Roy;)

You said old concrete slabs? Now we are talking; I just love those old concrete roads, which vanish under asphalt over time as cities and./or state D.O.T.s resurface them with asphalt to restore the smoothness (even when some times it seems that the original concrete was just fine). Asphalt is cheaper than concrete slabs and that is why asphalt seems to be so common these days, I suspect, though some times it seems that freeways still get built using concrete slabs, probably due to concrete's superior strength over asphalt (compare a 1960s concrete road with a 1960s asphalt road; betcha the concrete will be in quite a bit better shape! ;) There are still-concrete 1960s off/on-ramps for a freeway around here that are still in pretty good shape! No potholes that I see! ;)).

Yea, enough ranting. :p

Having (two) 20%-off vouchers for TS2010, TS2010 looks appealing (though of course I could only use one ;)). Fallen Flag Railroads (the site where McGuirel put has her SpeedTrees on) has the boxed version of TS12 for $36 AUD (around 39 USD), which is good. My signature shows the (simplified to fit in the signature) specifications for this Dell laptop, so the performance that I get out of Trainz is an other factor that I need to consider. I might have to keep the SpeedTrees that I use to a minimum in either version as a result, but of course I will not know until I actually try it. An other thing is the budget; the lower the price the better, and so the ~$26 USD that I would pay for TS2010 using one of my vouchers could be quite a bit easier to get than the 15-dollars-higher price for TS12. I am thinking that it should be okay to get TS2010 now for the price and maybe get TS12 later, especially when they get that patch done and fix those bugs that I hear about in TS12. ;) All that can really be said is that either version might be better than the good old TRS2004 that I use currently. ;)

Oh, and thanks for the offer on testing the YARN2 set. It would be nice to hear about how it works in the newer versions of Trainz. :)

Regards.

Well surprise here this one on a laptop

I still use an acer notebook Travelmate 8210 with ati card for testing and put win7 pro on it and the win7 was much faster really much faster and i could run TS12 much better than 2010.N3V did improve stuff to run better than 2010 for sure.
I test my route(s) on this "stone age computer 6 or 7 years old yes!
The full route 5km view runs at 8-12 fps view free roam and av 20 up fps cabview.
Shorter draw gives much better like 3km gives easy 25-30 fps on the old lady.
So my bet is your DELL would do better with win 7 and TS12 .
Hope this input helps.
