1984. There's a scene where Winston is riding an INGSOC operated train consisting of a rather dirty British tank engine and what appears to be a horribly battered up Mk1 coach.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but I was watching a movie in school called October Sky, about a group of 50's high schoolers in West Virginia building rockets (and they lived in a coal mining town!). I believe I saw a couple of Norfolk & Western steamers hauling coal, maybe a 4-8-2, or 4-8-4.

We watched the movie in science class a few years back. I don't know what I was more proud about when watching that movie. The fact it was in West Virginia or the fact that they had some nice steam loco's in there.

Another movie from West Virginia with steam trains is Matewan.
And before you ask if I seen it I can reply yes. Our history teacher thought we should watch something that was was in our history books.

And about the Indiana Jones. You seem to forget that Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has a train in it. The movie isn't out yet but there are tons of production pictures along with videos showcasing the scene and equipment used.

Okay that is all I can think of for now. I'll add more to this long list when I think of another one.

Edit: I knew I forgot 1! In a Charlie Chaplin DVD set we also got The General which was according to Pentrex, long time since I've heard or said that name, the General and Texas were both restored for. The movie is a black and white silent comedy. It was produced in 1927.

And the train used in Indiana Jones was filmed right here in Connecticut! On the Essex steam train:D
And a fair amount of it was filmed in New Haven,CT as well:D

I've just combed through the entire thread, and I'm really surprised nobody's mentioned Dumbo. Who could forget Casey Junior, especially since we've got our own CaseyJ.

In the animated movie "Everyone's Hero," 60% of the film takes place on or around train tracks.

the 2 locomotives they use are a NYC Hudson, and a Milwaukee Road Hudson.

How about these:
Buster (Phil Collins)
Wrongly Accused (Leslie Neilsen) Spoof of "The Fugitive"
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Sean Connery)
Final Destination 2
28 Weeks Later (Robert Carlisle)
Snakes on a Train (yes it doe's exist)
The Mummy Returns
Starman (Beau Bridges)
The Ghoul (1958)
The 39 Steps
Stand by Me (Three boys on rails)
Brief Encounter
The Elephant Man (John Hurt)
Species
Young Frankenstien (Gene Wilder)
The Three Godfathers (John Wayne)
Clockwise (John Cleese)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Ive read through the whole post and I didnt see this one.

"Stand By Me" Group of lads walking across a railway bridge and a train comes.

"Star Trek the next Generation". Picard and data are on the holodeck (again) and the orient express (or something similar) comes roaring towards them. Its quite a awfull plot as later the ship becomes contolled by the train so as the train in the holodeck goes faster the ship goes faster lol.
Dont remember the name of the episode sorry.

"Flight Of the Navigator. The young lad crosses the railway line and falls down the bank knocking himself out, and you see the lights from a passing train. Later he wakes up and goes home but its 8 years later and his parents have moved house.

New one...

In that new Will Smith movie Hancock, it looks as if he saves a guy stalled at a grade crossing in the trailer. Can't make out which road the loco belongs to though.

Then there's some really cheesy looking Kevin Bacon drama called Rails and Ties (Har har har) where that train from the Geico commercial plays a large role.

*EDIT* And let's not forget A League of Their Own in which the IRM's Burlington E5 makes an appearance.

There's an abysmal portrayal of train driving in the Terry Jones adaptation of Wind in the Willows - according to that film the Wainwright Goods SECR C class 0-6-0s were capable of 140 miles an hour and were fitted with an accelerator with the notches marked "Slow", "Fast", "Faster", and "Even Faster". It eventually derails on a sharp bend doing 120. :o

The happening has a train scene I think in the beginning. I haven't seen it yet but I have two questions what type of loco is it(people who've seen the movie) and since it's a passenger train how come there is a frieght locomotive rather than an Amtrak one?
