What IS Trainz?

Perhaps the best method would be for Auran to supply a simplified stand-alone version of CM3.2

I asked about this a week or so ago. I got no response. It was asked in reference as to why the dls rejected content when 09 said it was not faulty. It was said something on the lines that maybe the dls was on a higher checking version than mine. Hmmm, doesn't hardly seem right that our versions of 09 and 10 aren't able to error check like the dls. In my view, just another reason for people to not want to create to 09-10 standards. Everyone who runs 09 and/or 10 (including Auran) need to be on the same page. But that's just my opinion.

Perhaps the best method would be for Auran to supply a simplified stand-alone version of CM3.2 and require that all creators run their work through that before submitting to the DLS. The stand-alone could add a hidden key to the upload file and without that key the upload would not be accepted.

What is being ignored at the present is that it is the responsibility of the creator to get the asset error free, and anyone making in versions before TS2010 can still build in unchecked errors.

A few things wrong with this analysis, but the most important point is: while anyone can create faulty content, they can't upload it to the DLS.

We don't have any plans in that direction currently. I can't rule out moving in this direction in the future.

It's quite natural. We don't release patches to all software simultaneously, so there will always be intervals where one or another product is at a newer revision. This wouldn't be the case in an ideal world, but I don't see any way that we can reasonably change this. The changes are typically pretty subtle anyway.

Thanks for the answer Chris. :)

I've only got a few more pieces of faulty content on the DLS to fix. Well, not counting PaintShed items of course. Those I really don't know what to do with.

What is Trainz for me? A big bloody waste of time since 2001 for me.

Will have to have a party this December to celebrate.

The party will of course end up being delayed by several months/years and include half finished cakes, directions with street names missing on the invites, and people leaving very early in dramatic fashion, only to return several minutes later saying that they didn't really mean it... The alcohol will be supplied in the form of a brew kit, with few instructions or ingredients and will take several weeks (after the party is over) to ferment.

Really?....this still amazes you? This round you've been here only a few months...you imply you've been here forever and yet you don't know who the mods are. Perhaps you weren't "on" that much since disagreements in this forum shouldn't spawn amazement to anyone who has been here any length of time.....

Perhaps you weren't "on" that much. Unquote. That sums it up well enough.A 1080 posts would take me 2 lifetimes to reach.BTW who are the mods?I see names as mods of people who no longer work for Auran,so please enlighten me

Just my opinion. I own all of the different versions of Trainz (Except TS2010 and Driver) nowadays. I first joined in 2003-ish and was staggered by how the content was. I am the same way now with TS2009. I had Trainz Classics (1+2) and used it until I bought Trainz Collection and installed TRS2004. I then installed TRS2006 due to it being more similar to TC. I played TRS2006 for the best part of a year until I took the plunge (mainly because of kiemei's inability to make her content compatable with older versions of Trainz) and bought TS2009. Honestly, aside from the Alpha issues which only spring up once in a while while in compatability mode, I have not found much fault with TS2009. I find it largely stable and easy to work with and enjoy the high-quality content and increased performance available for and with it.
I haven't touched TRS2006 or TC for the best part of seven months.

I don't have any experience with TS2010EE by the way but I say go with the newest. Like Windows Vista (Oooh, yes. I'll compare it to Vista), it has its teething problems but in the end they get sorted out. Like now, Vista is a (mostly) stable and compliant program. Although, that Microsoft update in September sent stability through the floor...
