What is it with some DLS uploaders?

I am trying to search "Buildings" for TS12 on the DLS and guess what I find? At around close to 1000 uploads of "Buildings and Structures" by a content creator named "Bugor" and a handful of some others to make this the 1000 listings one can only see and search for under buildings. As there is a restriction of seeing only 1000 listing on the DLS page although one is told one can look for the other 90 000 or so items with CM.

He might have had some very sought after and commentate items created and it would not be for me to critizise his creations but clattering up the DLS with so many items at a time, is this right for someone looking for some buildings for TS12 on the DLS to have his or her search so restricted? I am well aware that I could (if wanted) start up my TS12 and look for such buildings with CM but the sheer task of such looking with CM is a little bit too much. Beside, I am having trouble d/loading via CM but not via the DLS page.

What do you think, is it fair?

I could (if wanted) start up my TS12 and look for such buildings with CM

Than do as you have so many more filtering options in CM.

Just be thankful some one makes your content free. If you lived in somewhere like the US or the UK you could search the DLS by country unfortunately over the rainbow doesn't come up with anything. Typically if you find one item you like it might be worthwhile looking at that content creator's other content.

I agree with John's and oknotsen's comments.

The filters in CM are very handy. For example, you could finish your search filters with

AND NOT​

Name: Bugor​

and thereby filter out Bugor's useful, but admittedly rather prolific submissions.

Also, though the (traditional) DLS "Black Pages" show only 1,000 assets, the DLS "White Pages" (at dls.trainzportal.com ) are not so limited (though they do not begin to approach the really useful filtering capabilities of CM, which are well worth investing some time in).

There is another issue with regards to "CM vs. DLS" and that is that if you download from the DLS (or download and install from any other source), the assets so imported will be marked as "Locally Modified" and checked more stringently. This means that an asset downloaded in CM may not show an error that is shown when downloaded by other methods.

Having assets shown as "Locally Modified" has yet another downside in that if you later create and want to upload a route or session (or any other asset that uses dependencies), you cannot then be sure which dependencies are as on the DLS and which you have modified to work correctly. This means anyone downloading your assets may report many broken dependencies which you never noticed (as they are not broken on your Trainz).

Using CM rather than the DLS has yet another useful side, which is that in Trainz proper you have a listing of content updates which, if you use it regularly and "Download All", ensures you are always using the most up-to-date versions of assets you have previously downloaded.

When you get the first set of results up scroll to the bottom of the page there you'll find options to restrict the content by region, other options are to select TRS2004 or TRS2006 content only, etc that way you can filter the content.

So use Content Manager to find the item you want, write down (or copy/paste) the KUID, and proceed to download via the Black Pages.

Something else also to consider: A content creator already has a million other things to worry about besides whether his assets will clutter up the Black Pages. The DLS allows you to upload a bunch of assets as a single CDP; the upload bot will then separates them into individual assets. Uploading 2000 CDPs, or even 200 or 100, is a royal pain and an unnecessary waste of time.

No need to get nasty, I contacted myself civil here. Good for you not having problems d/loading via CM, by the reading here in other forums, I am not alone with my problems d/loading. Good for you too, that YOU are extremely grateful for that content uploaded, I did NOT KNOCK his content, I only pointed out the almost 1000 items in one hit uploaded by him/her and what issues this brings/brought for me.

I know that too, what I can do like writing down the kuid BUT there is NO WAY that will tell me that item is a TS12 version, when it is still on the DLS. I have to d/load and install this first, don't you think that is the wrong way to d/load to find any TS12 buildings only? As one can not read the config.txt when still on the DLS. So please DO NOT TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD DO, as you yourself do not know this.

It seems this forum is slowly going down the gurgler, when a poster posts a legitimate post here and gets attacked for all the wrong reasons. Is it any wonder, so many of the old (as in from some years earlier) posters have left for good, including some good content creators?

The "forum" already attacked Bugor. He had to prove himself with no one downloading any of his creations. You know, they are out to get you type stuff.

Lennard, I did not get nasty, I simply stated the obvious solution to your problem.

It seems you are either just out to attack BUGOR, are incapable of reading, or are a highly defensive person...

PLEASE, RE-READ what I wrote.

I said SEARCH with Content Manager, which allows you to use so many more search options...including sorting by build version (trainz version).
--Then, after you find what you want, plug the KUID into the black pages to download via FTP. It really is that simple to correct your issue, without attacking BUGOR for uploading a whole lot of legitimate assets.

The illigitimate assets come in to play because a few weeks back, someone was spamming the DLS with cloned pirated items...perhaps you haven't been around long enough to know that.

I never said to download via CM, and if you do not know how to use the search features within CM, then don't get nasty with me, just ask for help.

Yes there is, or at least in CM there is:
Right-click on the header row, select "build-number" (don't know exact name; not on my game PC right now, but you will recognize it) so it will now be shown.

However: Most (if not all) buildings will just work in TS12. Got loads of 1.3 buildings on my routes without problems.

Well, thank you, kind Sir, that is just the information I needed to get looking for what I need to look for. For what it is worth, I am looking for a late TS12 configured scenery item, possibly a "buildable" and/or with "track attached" item, (yes I know, there is a very recent post regarding this very topic in this forum and I have also read the relevant pages on the Trainz Reference site and the DevWiki which still has some/lots of entries TBD).

Also possible with some new, not yet documented tags included, for a project I am working on to make this a TS12 V3.7 SP1 hotfix4 creation. I probably hope against hope to find such item on the DLS. If you recommend CCP for making my configuration I would need, well, you know how good or bad CCP sometimes is for such, I think an already made similar item can be studied for its configuration and thereby saves a lot of error hunting and fixing.
