What happens if I delete a route?

Hello all,

Question: If I delete a route, will all the dependencies that downloaded with the route be deleted as well?

Background: Early on I downloaded a number of routes because they had assets I liked, e.g., textures, structures, track. Now I find I have many routes in surveyor that I don't operate since I have started building my own. I would like to clean up my surveyor menu but without losing the assets, and would like to know the answer before I do something spectacularly embarassing. Oh, I'm using TRS06 SP1, if that matters.

Thanks in advance for any guidance offered.

Bernie

The routes and their dependencies are separate. If you delete the route, the dependencies will still be there.

Thank you both. I think I will do a little house cleaning this afternoon.

BTW: Please provide sufficient identification so I can sue you if you are wrong. Being fellow Americans, you must understand this is what we do. :hehe:

Seriously, thanks.

I didn't write what I wrote, by the way. I have the best witnesses money can buy, who will swear I was in three different places at the time of the incident.:D
The tedious part is finding and getting rid of all the extra assets you do want to get rid of.

Back in good 'ol TRS04 days, TrainzObjectz could identify all downloaded assets not used in any installed route, which could then be archived or deleted. AFAIK CMP offers no such function, but then TO was freeware so you expected it to have handy little extras like that built in.....

Andy :hehe:

CMP will let you check item by item (yes it's a pain), but at least you can sort by size and get rid of some of the real disk-hogs.

Thanks for more good suggestions.

Having lived in an apartment for the last 10 years, I haven't had to clean a garage out for a long time. I guess I have to do it now. :) It's amazing how much space this stuff takes up.

BTW, Claude, you are safe, so far.

It's been a long time since I used TRS2006, but I have TRS2009. If your CMP works like my CM2, find the route you want to delete and right click. Choose "View Dependencies" and then "View in main list".

Then right click on each in turn and select "View Dependent Assets". You will then see a list of routes that use that particular asset. Decide whether to keep or delete the asset.

Yes, I know it's time consuming and yes I know that TrainzObjectz for TRS2004 was a bit better in that regard.

What I do now before downloading a new route is use CM2 to archive all my downloads, save the archive file to a safe location and delete all the locally modified assets from TRS2009. I then download the new route. If I don't like it or if there are too many missing dependencies it's easy to delete it all. The archive file can then be restored.

Just make sure you know how to archive and un-archive before attempting this though.

Good luck,
Phil

Note: I've done this just to show that I'm not the unhelpful veteran I was accused of being in this thread:

Now I can revert back to my normal unhelpful behavior!~!
