What do you actually do in Trainz?

1. I love creating routes in Surveyor. It's fun designing your own little world... laying out the land, inserting track, highways, building towns (and naming them is fun, too!:p ), Factories, rivers & streams, forests, etc.

2. I also love being the "local" engineer, shuttling rolling stock between industries in my locos, being careful to watch signals and speed limits. Of course, I only use the main line when the dispatcher gives me the okay, because there are quite a few Class 1's who use the tracks, too! (I'm talking about A.I.'s in case you're a newbie.)

Yes, it's a computer game---- but to many of us, it's even more. It's a place to relax, to be creative, to learn about railroads (railways), to share ideas with other Trainzers, and to help others solve problems..... but, IMHO, mainly to have fun!

Dave

I'm driving your Ozark Valley route right now, it's good, great atmophere and track building (I can learn from that).

Did you use DEM for the terrain?

Did you use DEM for the terrain?

Actually, I created the Displacement in Adobe Photoshop. . . Laid out all the boards in TRS2006 then "pasted" my Displacement there--- added basic coloring of the land and water in 06... then exported it into TS2010--- THEN, I did all the rest of the designing in TS2010.

Did you swap between TS's because those things are harder to do in TS10? Or is there another reason you used 2006?

How did you create the displacement in Adobe? I'm using DEM, but not liking very much, I want to be a bit more creative.

Also; is there a way to "preset" the boards in 10?

Lots of questions, I know.:)

I'm a passenger! I have a couple of passenger cars with interiors where I can look out the window(s). So I kill the sound on trainz box and turn on some jazz on the mp3 box and watch the Trainz scenery go by, just like a real Train.

cheers,
Seasons Greetings to you all!

Yeah, that's pretty cool too.:) I just have to figure a way to get the IA working for me, well haven't even figured out how to lay track mostly yet.:hehe:

What I've been doing lately is hunting for missing assets. It's like traveling all around the world without ever leaving the chair.

I used to spend most of the time, about 5 years in fact, creating assets and a large route for 2004 / 2006, but I couldn't meet the Sept 2010 deadline to get them uploaded. If I wasn't trying to scramble downloading what I thought I needed, I would have got a jump getting stuff uploaded. Now I spend time both hunting for assets, creating things and working on my route.

Makeing routes and hopeing my low end laptop can handle it all so theres never a dull moment with all that.

I'm a session man myself. put trainz on a good layout and bring it to life. Then drive a train in amoungst the other ones.
hay Yakutsky tutorturails only show up in comparability mode

Mainly building prototype routes with constant detours to make another object to include in the map. In fact, sometimes I think that making the objects is more fun than actually working on the route. :D

The great thing about V-scale is that you can work on multiple routes, unlike physical scale models where one small layout is all that most can ever hope to do. Plus, the parts are almost free, all it takes is a bit of time to make them.

The best thing about Trainz is the community. I can get an answer to almost any question I have, I can get help with testing my creations, I can get things created that I am not capable of by asking nicely.

One thing I like about Virtual Scale Modeling is the ability to historically model an existing railroad. Start with the first few miles of track and expand the route as the actual railroad added trackage. This requires considerable research, which is another thing that I enjoy.

I like building prototype routes, writing a little script when needed but most of all I like to create open ended sessions that go on for days.

I've got so many question!:p
For the last few days I've been working on my "North / South Dakota" fantasy route with lots of farmland and mining operations (and some power plants etc). It's really hard for me to get my view distance right. (I need huge view distances due to the flat terrain and distant building etc.) In my options it says it's defenately 5000m but I can only see like 2500m... *judged by the ruler*. If I'm in driver and in de CAB it's even less, what's up?

Thanks!:D

I didn't realise how many people do what I do. Start building a route then after a week scrap it and start a new one. I don't get anywhere!!! The people who put routes on the download station must be quite commited.

Well, yes, it does take a certain amount of persistence to actualy finish a route that you started. But that's no different than life except that here you can easily delete your false starts and there is no penalty.

One factor can be Trainz' highly-controversial built-in crash protector, which limits scenery draw distance. Here's a related thread that comes to mind:
