What brought you into Trainz?

I bought TRS2004 for a friend and got addicted

I bought TRS2004 for a friend and got addicted. Honestly, I loaded the game and drove train around and thought this is boring. Then I discovered the download station and found something which I have a real passion for steel mills. There were so many great steel mill assets that I downloaded them all and started making my own layouts. I still spend 75% of my time in surveyor when playing with Trainz.

My family worked in steel mills for four generations. I was the last. The steel mills are almost gone but I can relive their glory with Trainz.

I just have to add in here a comment for Mr Auran;

Do you know that the train system in New Zealand is called (wait for it)

TRAINZ

ohoh, does that mean that I am moving to NZ? Not Yet :hehe: .

QB throws to #56...

50 yard line...

#98 grabs the ball!

LB coming up fast!

Quick i'm open!!!

Throw! Throw!! Throw!!!

...

The way I got into it was, when I had MSTS first, then my family went to best buy, then I saw TRS06 and i wanted it badly, I forced my dad to get it and he got it, hence i was only 6, now im 9.
Also, i didnt know how to get into paintshed.......then the PC didnt work with TRS 06 but it used to, so I got TRs09 and found out the serial number wasnt on the auran(NV3)database!so I asked the helpdest and they helped on the day after.

-Trainzer Tony.

 Like the story I(DIdnt Make)up?
it was true....

What brought me into trainz?

Back when I was 6 and loving trains just as much as I do now....

"Look mommy! Train game!!"

...and the rest is history. :D

Does anyone realize we just brought back a 3 year old thread? Oh well, at least it's a nice topic. I probably have the most interesting story. Back in 2005, I had to go over to my sister's friend's house with her and my mom (keep in mind I was only 9 at the time). They had a pool and despite it being quite sunny outside that day, my mom insisted that I didn't need sunscreen. To make a long story short, I couldn't move my arms or wear a shirt for three weeks because both of my shoulders had expanded an inch from the blisters. As an "I'm sorry" gift, I suppose, she went and got me TRS2004 about a week into the burn. From that point in time, I have three statements to make: 1. I'll never leave TRS2004 for TS2010, 2. I'll never use MSTS again, and 3. Unless it's pitch black outside, I'll always wear sunscreen while swimming.:hehe:

Let me tell you what got me into Trainz

What got me into Trainz?

Well the story goes way back. Before I knew about the Trainz forum or even internet for that matter, I never knew I would be doing this type of stuff as a hobby.

When I was born, until I reached middle school, I was mostly into CD-ROM games and I use to play with them all the time.:)

Then one day, I stumble upon a copy of Trainz at the time I was about 9, but I couldn't get that to work so until when I hit 4th grade, that's when I got my copy of ultimate Trainz Collection and I use to play with it all the time. :udrool:

But when I was 12, I found out it stopped working for some reason. so for a while, I was trying to look for a replacement but then, when I got a new model railroader magazine in about 2005, I found Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006 in the ads, I wanted to get the new game(Since the fact that TRS2006 had steam engines which of course, UTC does not), but I did not want to cut up my magazine so I made a printed a copy of it and sent it out, but it took 36 WEEKS(I think) FOR IT TO COME OUT! Finally when it came, I was most excited indeed, for a while I had hard time trying to get it installed, but finally, I managed to get it working on mothers Windows vista computer. For a few months I was having fun with it ,but then it stopped working for some reason, and for a year I tried to get it working, but in November of 2007, I got it back up and running again, and I've been playing ever since.:D

Thoughout those few years of playing TRS2006, I got inspired to create a TV series known as "Nick the steam engine" and I would like to thank those that have inspired me to come up with the series and i promise to you I would bring the series real soon if high school, learning how to drive, (possibly) college & my outside schedule don't keep me busy much.

That's what got me into Trainz. True story.

No noobish remarks.:o

there you go.

Cheers.

I'm out.

When I was young (I forget how old I was), I was in ShopRite with my mom and randomly found a copy of the first trainz sitting on a shelf. We bought it, but it didn't work on my desktop computer. :( Then some years ago, I found trainz driver edition at Target. I bought it and had some trouble getting it to work. After many tries, my sister took a crack at it and got it installed. Unfortunately, I couldn't play it. :( :( So back in 2008, my mom ordered TS2009 for me, and after New Years day, I got it. I had a laptop at the time. I installed it and it was great. :) :) And that's my story.

For me, I have modelrailroader magazine so, an ad popped up about ts2006 but my parents would not let me get it so i waited until ts2010 came out in which i got as a present:)

I was give UTC as a present by my then girlfriend, who knew how mad i was on railways. I found it very limited at that time (i had no Internet for downloading content), so I bought myself MSTS. After a few year's using MSTS & buying add on's for it i decided to try Trainz 06, to see if it had improved, It had, not looked back since, (i later picked up a copy of TRS04 from poundland just so i could use the "smite" feature LOL).

What got me into Trainz?

The fact that it only cost $10, that's what!:hehe::hehe:

No really, i found a copy of Trainz 1.3 for only $10 at EB, like the blurb on the back, and picked it up. I played it on and off for awhile, in between lengthy MSTS sessions, then dropped that all together when i purchased the '04 Deluxe edition, and realised how much better than MSTS it was, in terms of route/session creation.

I have not looked back since.

Matt.

I was kind of the same Matt - my first version of Trainz was the 'budget' release of Trainz 1.3 too, which I bought back in 2004 with another game. I'd read about Trainz in gaming magazines, and being a train-buff for much of my life, I was intrigued by a train simulator for PC.

So, one day I was at EB Games to pick up another game I had on order, and, with cash to spare I asked the clerk if they had 'Trainz', with which he went over and grabbed a copy of 1.3 off the shelf. Imagine my delight to find it was only $10!

Sadly it took me ages to finally get it to install on my dysfunctional computer however (the problem lay with a corrupted and buggy version of XP I was using at time), but once I finally got it working, I was hooked.

I still remember spending six hours on that first night playing the Highland Valley scenario over and over again, before I summed up the courage to make my first route, a single-baseboard freelance route (because I didn't know how to expand the baseboard at the time!). I few months later I then graduated up to 04, buying the 'Deluxe Edition' which included Paintshed from the same EB, and became well and truely a TRS junkie by then. :p

Sadly though, all the horror stories I read here about the problems people had with 06 stopped me from ever upgrading to it, and I kind of stuck with good ol' reliable 04 until a few weeks ago with all that server trouble and the resulting cessation of non-subscription DLS access for 04. So, I finally bit the bullet and bought 2010 EE from my local EB Games (and I got it on discount, due to having some store credit ;)).

And now, after a few patching headaches, getting used to CMP's eccentricities, and adapting to Compatibility Mode, I'm now falling in love with Trainz all over again (figuratively speaking of course :hehe:).

I got my first one from target and it was the trainz 2006 simulator version. Later my dad got my for christmas a pack with trainz 2004 traiz unlitmate. Then after that I saw the trainz 2009 to buy and bought it about 3 months ago and I have been happy ever sense :D

Hi everyone, I was browsing the sdtasnds at Staples when I saw the Trainz 2006 packet. So bought it just for fun and now Im hooked. I have been into trains all my life being as my dad was a Driver on the old LMS region. So, Am I a nerd, no I dont think so, My main hobby is as tronomy and my other pastime is guitar playing.:D

One of my friends told me he had a game where you could build maps, and drive any train you wanted, so I checked it out. Until then, I had only played Railroad Tycoon 2. It was UTC, and I loved it, despite the lack of steam. He hadn't registered it yet, but he gave me 3D Ultra Lionel Train Town.

After years of going into EB Games, and listening to them say "Sorry, we don't have any in stock." or "There is not much of a market for train simulators." (The latter completely false, look how many members there are in this community) I found TC3. It was only $29.95, so I bought it. It had my favourite locos in it, the A3s.

It was not until after I got Trainz Collection (Which gave me the rest of the Trainz versions excluding TC1&2) that another one of my friends who had registered the game he had, helped to set me up, and to register the serial numbers.

By the time I got TC1&2, I knew the game very well. But it was not very long before that (2-3 months) that I started using these forums.

So, that is my story.

Waited for Ages

(Actually, resurrecting threads with universal themes is rather charming - in fact, this long-running forum is the fourth or fifth best thing about Trainz, IMHO.)

I had seen copies of each of the various railroad-sim games in computer and office-products stores for years, but (being a cheap sort of person) my home PC was never up to their (at the time) exorbitant demands for flops and RAM.

Then, this May, there it was in Office Depot (American office supply chain): UTC at $9.95US, a version my 2 year-old XP PC could *crush*. Took about a month to get my own homemade locos running (having a little backstory in 3d VRML design, programming in various languages, etc.).

Then, seeing the way the wind was blowing, I bought TRS2009WBE from Amazon since it's the latest version my machine can run at all ("unsupported" graphics card, had to add RAM to its maximum). (And in view of the horror stories about SP4, it's likely to stay unpatched for a while yet!)

I generally play without shadows or much anti-aliasing, and Auran will have to wait, probably, until my current machine crashes before they get more of my money since I'd as soon build as download whatever I want. On the bright side, the current Windows(tm) build (7) is stable, maybe Auran will negotiate OS security with Microsoft by the time 2011 or 2012 (or 2014 - my current machine is *awfully* reliable in XP SP3) becomes available so we don't have to run in supervisor mode.

While I prefer physical modeling, there's a lot you can do in Trainz that would be impossible in a real model, due to space or other problems.

Let's see...

My parents got me MSTS when I was five. I eventually got the hang of it, and then trains went on the shelf.

A couple of years ago, I stumbeled across Trainz Driver's Edition at like a Target or something. I remember I used to play around with the Cut Bank Wheat Campeign, but never really got into it.

Then, I came across Trainz Railways at Best Buy and bought it, the Pere Marquete Berk on the front naturally appealing to me. I sort of felt like it was a part of a whole, and got the then latest virsion TS2006. This felt much more complete, and I soon figured out that that little thing called Surveyor actually allowed you to build routes. I couldn't figure it out at first.
Then, I found that this fascinating web site called RailServe had links to websites offering fantastic freeware content. Among those were West Cost Trainz (Frank McCall's [SPORBUST] website) and Checkrail.com (no description needed there).

Then, I came across the forums...

So, I think that's why the color yellow makes me mad.
A special thank you to all you therapists out there. How much do I owe you?
