I am running Trainz a New Era on a Mac. I would like to use a wav. file in a engine, I don't know how to add the wav. file to a kuid. Is there a tutorial or a web site I can find out? Thanks funnnyfarm

What is the sound for your WAV file? Horn, bell, engine, ambient, wheels, etc.

Is there a way to create a whistle file for an engine like the Polar Express Berkshire?

Take the wav file, and setup a hornsound asset as specified on the Wiki article that PEV linked to above.

I recommend cloning another existing hornsound and use that as a template.

Well I found all kinds of Whistle an horns, what a Whistle and horn is made of and how it works. But nothing that tells me how to take a wav. file and turn it into a kuid or asset so I can use it with an engine. Thanks funnnyfarm

Well, the problem with me is I create the asset and put it on the engine in CCP. But when I try the engine in the simulator, the whistle only shows up in Cab mode.

What part of the process are you missing? If you take an existing asset of the correct type (eg, hornsound) and clone it, then make the adjustments (change the name, include your WAV file), that's all that's needed.

There is no clone in Mac version of Trainz A New Era. That is what I am missing, and when I do use an Existing horn asset and change the wav. file through Asset Details and edit it it comes up faulty. Sorry Thanks funnnyfarm

That fault may indicate that the wav file is the wrong type. You should be able to find a suitable app to adjust the file. There are a bunch of wav file specs.. Trainz only supports a couple. (eg windows pcm). In windows Audacity does the trick. Our AssetX tool for windows also fixes wav files.

You don't need a clone function. You clone an asset by opening it for editing and then copying the edit folder to a new location and reverting the original. Then change the details to what you want and import the asset from that new location.

If that process isn't working for some reason then you need to post the exact error message that you are getting.

Do I need permission from the engine builder? Why is there 4 wav.files (idle, horn_start, horn_loop, horn_end) in the horn kuid file? Thanks funnnyfarm

If this is for your own personal use, no you do not.

Uploading maybe a different story.

The sound is setup like this to give the proper sequence for the horn.
