Warning... Vistamap can eat your signals!

My plan was to replace the default signals on my route with those made by NorfolkSouthern - those really totally awesome realistic-looking ones that don't glow too bright, and aren't flat looking.

Now instead of doing a manual replacement, I decided to use Vistamap for what it's supposed to do. I selected the default USA Signal 02, and replaced it with the Searclight Signal 06 RD.

Well to my horror after the so-called successful replacement of 900-plus signals, was that the USA Signal 02's were missing, and no new Signal06 RDs were there at all!

This isn't a big deal because I have a backup. This is an FYI to be careful when using the utility for maps created or modified in TRS06! So please make sure you have a successful backup before doing anything like this!

Since I want to use the new signals, I am now in the process of manually replacing the ones I no longer wish to use! This will be time consuming on the 87 mile route, but I think I'll use this opportunity to inspect and tweak my track as I go along.

Funny... didn't happen to me when I used it to do the same...

However, you have the advantage of being able to adjust your track.. something you'll prolly have done anyways...

The track tweaking, and signal re-placement project is coming along very nicely I might add. I found a few floating sections I wasn't aware of, or actually forgot about when I was building and driving, ended up removing a few trees in another spot because they were too close to the tracks, and totally replaced a bridge in another because I didn't like it. The virtual population and the AI drivers will love the new look and feel of the line when they drive and ride!

This process didn't include the rebuild of a section that I always thought of as being a bit awkward because the approach to this particular junction was just wrong and didn't feel or look right. This took a big part of last night, and I'm still working out the speed sign placement.

So I suppose this was a happy accident, but I'd still like to know what happened being the technician I am. I will try this again on a test layout. I was lucky that the results weren't more disasterous this time.
