I have no problem with them.
I use them because of the option to let stop trains at the beginning, at the center and at the end of the station platform.

Wonder if there are more stations that have that option build in.

Make sure the cars you are using are also passenger-enabled. If you place the car in Surveyor and then view its Properties, you should have the Passengers commodity showing. Not all cars are like this; Perrock's Amfleets, for example, are not passenger-enabled, whereas the default M7As are.
