Viruses on my Computer

My dad already ran a scan on my external hard drive (which is where all my Trainz stuff is backed up to), and no viruses of any sort came up. The external hard drive has already been plugged into my computer a couple times after the reformat (my computer is now back up and running again) and after running another scan on the computer itself, again, no viruses found. I do agree though that there are some better anti-virus programs out there, but some of those programs cost money, and with today's economy, we really should be watching how much we spend. That's why a lot of people have been going with free programs like avast, which actually seems to work really well according to some people.

I waste @ $75 a year on Webroot Spysweeper & Norton Antivirus, but it seems to work getting rid of bugz...not sure how well free AVG, and other free antivirus programs do...if you visit sites that are prone to virus's.

Hey guys I have a question, I am doing a scan on my computer, and I was looking through the recent history, and saw the following message:

Statistical Submission: Bloodhound.Exploit.244

Next to it it said it was being "processed".

I was wondering if anybody knows what this means, I hope this doesn't mean another virus.

Robby it is what you think it is. Just check this link.

http://definitions.symantec.com/defs/rapidrelease/whatsnew.txt

Just scroll down slightly and you will see it listed as a risk.

The message appeared about 90 or so times in the history, and it was all linked to music in my iTunes. But hold on, Norton didn't actually detect anything, it just said it was sending statistical info on them, and didn't list it as a problem on my computer. So what should I delete iTunes and all will be fine?

This is a Trojan this link may help. I dont know but worth a try for more info. I would stay away from downloading any tunes. Some Trojans are hidden in the files and some Anti-virus software can't detect them.

I'm shocked here. I don't know how the hell that virus got onto my computer, it wasn't on before I reformatted, and I didn't even download any tunes at all, my dad just transferred music over from his computer onto mine. So would deleting iTunes get rid of the problem?

I would be doubtful that it actually is a trojan. The current updates to Norton seem to detect an alarming number of false positives. Several Trainz objects, and quite a few old games which precede the discovery of the supposed trojan (by years - so they are damned sure not the trojan that Norton claims) have been deleted from my PC automatically by the latest update. Norton also has always had a habit of "blocking attacks" when the PC is not even connected to the internet, and as for the Antispam the less said the better - spam is the only thing the damned program lets through.

Maybe time to try another antivirus - I only use Norton because it came free with the PC.

My dad is going to try to download avast and see if it detects anything, if it doesn't then I may be okay. What my dad found surprising was that my computer already needed a defrag, so he did that and now he just has to download avast and then we'll see what happens.

Well it turns out that there are no viruses, but what may have caused my computer to all the sudden need a defrag was because the hard drive may be going bad. My dad told me that while he was working on the computer the hard drive was randomly spinning even when he wasn't doing anything on it. So if that's the problem, I guess I just need a new hard drive and everything will be fine again. :)

I question this , but best of luck with your new HD --- ,DLR

We used to have Norton on my windows XP pc, and may i tell you, it did not work one bit. We deleted Norton, and installed Windows Live 1 Care, and it found 3 Trojan viruses slowing our computer down. Norton found none.

Well my dad downloaded something called "PC Tools AntiVirus", ran a comprehensive scan, and it also found nothing. But either way, I realized that the message Norton gave me ("Statistical Submission: Bloodhound.Exploit.244") is just something that Norton does, it's absolutely nothing to worry about, it does not mean there are viruses. Eventually my dad will change the anti-virus software to something better, so for right now the only problem that has to be dealt with is the hard drive.
