vertical rails

anyone know of a single rail asset that is either vertical or can be rotated so it is vertical?
i have need for such a thing , the Uihtah railway pile drove old rails into the supports of their trestles. I've tried modding the few single rails i've found on DLS but they will not tilt on the x axis.

I don't know of such an asset for download, but it would be so trivial to make as to make a good first asset creation object.

it would, for anyone who is familiar with 3d software, but the 20 or so hours i'd have to spend on picking up even the simplest 3d interface isn't worth it. it going to take about 2 years to make this route anyway, and at the moment i don't have time to spend learning 3d.

Single Rail spline, 140lb Area Rail kuid2:70337:37004:1 raise one end to the required height and then drag the spline point over the lower one and you have a vertical rail.

Nice for rollercoasters, but I don't think one can make a rollover or a looping where the train has to be upside down?

thankee kindly good sir Clam, i'll try it out , might be an excess of spline points as there are already about 3 splines on top of each other where fill, bridge, track and cliff splines are all in close proximity, , but i'll certainly give it a go :-)

More than likely a rail driven into the ground for support, would only show 36" of rail above the terrain ... the rest would be wasted inside the earth

Rotation about the horizontal y axis of any scenery object is controlled by 2 config tags:
rotate-yz-range
Type: Decimal Pair Desc: Allows 'rolling' of the asset along its Y axis where the first and second values reflect the number of degrees from normal orientation. For example, if the first value is -20 and the second is 20 then the asset can be rolled anywhere within 40 degrees of arc. By default, objects have a roll range of 0 to 0 (i.e. no roll). Rolling is performed in Surveyor by holding 'shift' while using the object rotate tool.

rollstep
Type: Decimal Desc: Specifies the step size of roll in degrees and is used in conjunction with rotate-yz-range. For example, if rotate-yz-range is (-10, 10), and rollstep is 5, then the allowable roll is -10, 5, 0, 5, and 10. The default rollstep is 1.0

If you make your own make sure the y axis is oriented so it will roll the way you want it to.

@cascaderr The 140 lb rail is a spline and can have any length. But I have to say if you're putting a large number of these in the ground it would be a chore doing each one about the same angle orientation and length. For my own use I'd prefer to create a spline with vertical elements of the right length - similar to a row of fence posts - and then you could just lay the spline where you needed it.

PS. The 140 lb rail in the above posts is a scenery spline set up as a kind bridge asset. Any spline will do the same thing but how it looks is a function of the tags in the config. Some start at ground level and some at 0.3m above. Some will have sections normal to the spline axis and some will have sections remain normal to the ground.

The underside of the 140 lb rail spline above is not mapped correctly probably this was never noticed because who cares what the bottom of the rail looks like.
