Vancouver British Columbia free map/session

I have created a Map and session of my local area of Vancouver and Whistler of which I would like for everyone/anyone to experience. There is 23 fully automated, heavily scheduled passenger/cargo trains plus 5 log trains servicing the whistler mountain. There is lots going on to just observe if you want or take over a train and start driving. I would like everyone to experience this if possible.Even leave the Map open for Modification so you can add your own stuff that you have collected over time. That way I have contributed to the trainz community thus stimulating new ideas and creativity for all who wish it. The links below should be viewed in order since it is mainly a flyover that was segmented to accomodate Utube rules. It is not a Holywood musical. I want you to experience the automated session in action and get a feel for the map. I might have blown the whistle a couple of times but it is mainly programmed for the trains to do it themselves.

I tried uploading Map and session but was prevented by CMP saying I was not the owner of certain items. I have not downloaded anything for the past three years, I've been creating this Map and session in that time. So the question is, how can we as a Trainz community advance ourselves if we cannot share our experiences. The Map without the session degrades it to a lifeless shell. So that means if you use anything You download in any of your creations then you are the only one that can experience that creation, which leads me to ask, is there any creation out there that does not have any downloads in it, that renders our creations and experiences impossible to share. With this kind of ruling there will be no advancement in the Trainz community as far as creativity goes, just get weary triping around the net looking for parts that cannot be used by anyone but yourself. Unless you just want to swap pictures. How about some input , what do you think. would you like to share MY experience or ANYone elses or just remain by yourself. who can answer these questions please with a degree of community support.

THANKS My username is crankwhistle but I'm not cranky.

I apologize for being blunt, but I don't really like it. I wish it had add ons instead of all built in content. Second, what are foreign locomotives and rolling doing there? You didn't even use any Canadian locomotives...

I know however that with time and effort you could create an excellent route, but this is very very lackluster. I hope I don't seem too rude, I give you alot of credit for the effort!

Thank you for your response trainzroxthehouse

Your absolutely correct trainzroxthehouse and I'm sure you are a very accurate creator and give you credit for doing it that way, but I wanted to experience different trains nomatter what nationality they were, the key being the 'experience ' and not the accuracy. I do not have enough time to create a map for each nation in order to experience them. The map creation is far from over, I have a lot more I want to do before I am content that it is finished, so rather than waiting till then I thought that it would a great idea to hand the map and session to the Trainz community to see where it would take it. Each time it is played it is always different, the map allows for the AI to rethink which route to take to reach it's destination if the usual route is busy therefore creating a different experience each time. If there is a tie up at a junction you quite often just by stopping and starting those trains at that junction has them rethink an alternate route and gets the automation going again, if not then sidetrack the main guilty party. Then you can go back to whatever you were doing prior to that tie up. the track has life and works very well, derailments are uncommon in this map but if there is a derailment and it is not a main artery then you can continue, but if is a main artery then a restart is neccessary but I have not experience repetitive problems like derailments lets face it steamers don't stop too quickly. If you were open to my invitation and if AURAN would ALLOW it to happen then all YOU would have to do is take note of the name of the train and the driver of the train you wish to change, go in to surveyor find the train you want to change (search vehicles) then delete that train and add in your own train then go to where you setup the driver schedules find the driver and select your train for that particular driver, that takes care of your train problem. as far as the map is concerned it works great, if there are parts of it you don't like then change them, I'm allowing you to do that and that way your getting closer to what you really want. Basically all I'm trying to achieve is to quickstart everyone into something different without having to spend countless hours creating something from scratch, that's all, I'm not looking for anything in return. On second thought I am looking for something, I'm looking for a creative, sharing experience environment. Is that possible....??? Could AURAN weigh in on this or should I just go away ? anybody any thoughts on this.....

I like the videos and the fact that most everything is built-in. Looks like an interesting route to operate.

Too many route builders use way too many non built-in assets 80% of the time. Although there is some great content out there for those folks, it is nice to see some routes with built in content from time to time. Less fuss, more fun.

Sorry sir, but your map does not resemble Vancouver area at all. You could consider renaming it. As I was born and grew up here it is not at all Canadian. It does look interesting and I give you credit for what you are accomplishing.I also build routes that may or may not contain areas that resemble certain parts of the country but I would not say that they are that part of the country,it would remain fictitious. If for example you mentioned that the area of Vancouver, Whistler inspired the map ,then you may have a excellent route.
Keep up the good work, it will be interesting to see the end result

Wow, you guys really knows how to take the fun out of this game....
Just reading you crappy comments makes me pissed and angry.

Give the guy some credit.

@crankwhistle, I dont know the area of vancouver at all, but i like what i saw in your videos, and i will definently give the route a spin.

If youre looking for somewhere to host it, send me a PM and i'll help you out at once.

And please dont let the lousy comments in this forum ruin the fun for you, its just a game, remember;)

Crappy comments , I don't think I said anything crappy, just referring to reality as he said it was map of his local area. If Vancouver and Whistler are his local area he did not make the map to resemble that and all I said was that he could possibly change the wording of his post. Otherwise I did mention the good work and to keep it up.If constructive criticism gathers posts like caddylars then this forum has really gone to the dogs. By the way, he did ask for input.

YouTube is an excellent place to find prototype train videos. Google "Images" also will show you the areas. Kicking Horse Pass, Yellowhead Pass are some keywords to search for great Canadian RR videos. Perhaps that would help your scenery and topography building.

All your comments are good guys

As I promise to show all 28 trains in the map, so I created it . With train sounds and some Van Morrison Tunes to make it more entertaining and to comply with the 10 minute rule with utube, which is OK, I split into 2 ten minute segments. But after loading onto Utube I recieved a message saying I 'may' have copyright infringements with WMG I tried to get permissions but that seems to be a very high mountain to climb to even get those permissions. I gave Van morrison credit in the headings and the music is from 1970 era but they have software that says there MAY be an infringement but you have to clear that yourself and there is too many roadbloack to correct this so there is no sound. I do not have the insentive to redo, but all is not lost if you Play your Favourite Tunes, besides you may not like Van Morrison even though he was Brilliant in his earlier years, no train sounds either, but do check them out. they are probably mostly copyright models so what can I say. If I take all the content of my creation that I DO NOT OWN out I think I might be left with a big Lawn
I took greywolfretired suggestion and it seems to fit better for what it is.

This is as far as I go with this, there is no more room for creativety here. But in doing it I learned a lot on how to create but with no response from Auran means it will never happen, after all they are a business and not a club, they have to make money and they can't make money if we share, at least that's what they think. The internet was created for the people to share there ideas and it skyrocketed, businesses slowly realized that's where the people are WE HAVE TO GET IN THERE so they did one by one. Now the internet is picking up pace on RULES, BUSINESS RULES, controlling rules, in not too many years they will have FULL control and that will be the end of that.

Thanks for all the input it was Magic, Cheerio and happy Training to you all.:'(

trainzroxthehouse your suggestion has merit

if you can help me out on where to go for other content, since I can't use Aurans in a sharing mode, that may be the ticket to revitalizing me to salvage this map for those who want it. Maybe you could give me one of your map so I can learn from you since you probably use other content that could be shared, I'm open to that. Sharing ideas and methods will advance us more quickly than doing it individually.

any input ?

anybody got good sites I can visit

Being new to uploading I may Have misunderstood

This is the first time I have tried to upload to share what I have and I think I may have jumped to the wrong conclusion when I am really the one at fault.

On doing farther investigation on what I do not own I see that it is all built in and there is no missing dependencies. If I understand that correctly then anyone with TRS2006 will have the same built in content as myself and therefore if I upload without those dependences it should work for them.

I may have to appoligize for my inexperienced comments.

I have not satisfied the upload yet but I am working on it now, I thought it best to make these comments immediately when I realized I may very well be responsible for my dilema and nobody else.

I hope I did not offend anyone.

I don't think you were trying to offend at all here. It is just that this is a broad membership ranging from the folk happy with an interesting route (and you have put a lot of work in) and those who are more into the actual prototype. Both have their place and with such a wide view some will be hopefully constructively, critical?!

Where someone is building an actual real life route many will expect it to be roughly something they can recognise. However I have seen routes shown where the builder has said they have exercised a wee bit of licence with the surrounds especially if they don't live anywhere near it. At present I am building a whole company's actual network and trying to have the scenery roughly as it is in real life but have had to use a bit of freedom as I am separated by a sea! Don't be too put off as you have as said here something interesting for the person just happy to drive on it. Equally it will be natural for the members who expect it to look like the real thing to comment. What trains you want to run on it yourself is of course your right. I am sure that it has a worthwhile contribution to make to the list of routes?

@rjhowie2;
Well said mate.

In my opinion, people are welcome to comment on others contributions if it's not what they thought they were being told it was going to be, !?, but it should be in a manner befitting these forums.

Some have acted in this manner (greywolfretired) and some haven't (trainzroxthehouse).

And well done crankwhistle.
It's refreshing to see someone using mainly built-in content.
Don't be persuaded to download gigabytes of content and cram it all into your route.

A lot of people fall into this trap, and I prefer to see routes that have been crafted with mainly the tools at hand.

If you must download, then go to the Download Station.
Have you registered your copy of Trainz?
I mention this because you say you can't use Auran's sharing!?

Smiley.

Thanks for asking smileyman

Let me tell you where I am at.
first of all I am registered and when I drag the route in to upload it checks my registration then I see it displays IDLE in the uploads part, so I assume I am ok to go ahead. it gives me a lot of red x's of the stuff that I do not own, so I displayed those items and all those items are built in. The same for the session they are all built in.
So I assume that if I were to upload without the dependencies and if everyone else has those dependencies then it should work for them fully.

I thought OK then lets upload, but nothing would happen, so I went to the help and displayed the upload help and it said that my content requires a thumbnail 240 x 180 so I picked one of my printscreens and sized and saved it. It does not say where it should go, then it mentions that the config.txt should be changed to include that. I got tired and had to give it a rest as it was late and now I'm ready to continue. recieving a message from Wales and Scotland is very uplifting. I emmigrated from Johnstone,Renfrewshire,West of Scotland in 1966. and it's great to get a response from both of you, it was totaly unexpected.
I've come to realize that some are very detailed in there creations and I must warn them that I have names of stations that are not in British Columbia they just poped into my at the time I placed them.

Example: Paddy's Mile,Neverland,Sleepy Hollow,Nowhere(I think it was late at night for this one and my brain just could not resolve this issue of a name I kept it anyway besides there is lots of pubs there and if your wife asks you where you are going you could say Nowhere truthfully),Paisley,Largs,Troon,Saltcoats,Seashell point,Clarksville,Pottingham,Long Beach,Royal,Cooksville,Landsend and my first station Manorly.

what is in BC: Vancouver,Richmond,Norvan(North Vancouver),Abbotsford,Burnaby,Surrey,Chilliwack,Tafino,Whistler,Horseshoe Bay,Squwamish.

and I may have even misspelled some.
This is definately a Fantasy trip which is fully automated and because there are 28 trains cruising around there will be times when you will have to settle a few arguements at a junction tie up.This creation would be great for those who want to just jump into train of their choice and drive it or just be an observer, like you would if you had a nice sports car and head out into scenic country, for those with lots of skill at this there are lots of grades. I think I should name this map 'Twilight Zone in British Columbia'.

actually I think it best I keep the same names, then I,ll know what level it is at incase of future updates. Well here I go to try and get this uploaded, if my info rings a bell with you and know a fast track method and you could post it that would be great,in the mean time I will brave on, it can't be that hard. Thanks for your response...Scotland and Wales..thats great.

Free Map and Session withdrawn

Thoughts of a newby

I was uploading the Map and session and as you probably all know it requires a thumbnail to be accepted, so I pursued that, I chose a picture and resized to 240x180 and found an article on how to add one, the article was using a wee red brick house and seemed pretty straight forward, but when I opened the Route to edit in explorer I ran into another snag, Then the words 'I really don't want to do THIS' jumped into my head.

This is most likely a piece of cake to most of you in the community but I do not want to spend time modifying config files just to send you my work, I'd rather be doing something else.

I recieved an email from Ausyland, a dad who really liked the videos and his son loves to watch trains, and I feel that 's where I should send my files where they would be more easily recieved and appreciated.

If I may make a couple of suggestions even though I am a newby.

In content manager provide a box saying insert 240x180 thumbnail here. So we could create one and just drag and drop it in without having to hone a new skill, also I think when you try to upload and all those red x's appear for all the content that you do not own appears there should be a note there saying they are not required or don't show them if they are not neccessary for the upload.

Another idea poped into my head regarding 'rating' the upload so that the community knows roughly what kind of upload it was, that way they don't waist there time. All it would require is a few more decisions from the uploader. I will use mine as the example to explain.

My rating even though I'm not possitive others would agree.

ADULT rating 3 ADULT/KIDS rating 4 KIDS rating 5

You may not have children at this time but someday you probably will and would be nice to go to a section in Trainz to find something with ease of use in one of those sections to introduce there kids to, and it would allow those who have been doing Routes for a long time a change of pace by creating something wild and crazy that a kid would love, it might even get you laughing which can be good therapy after doing so many articulate routes.

So I have decided to go back to where I was before starting this upload venture, maybe further down the line I'll try again.

Crankwhistle, I would replace that awful looking Auran default track with more realistic looking track. To make it clear, I meant Auran's default track looks awful, not the layout itself.

From what I've seen, it looks more Australian than Canadian. The stations for example.

Why have you got a power car/locomotive at each end of the trains for. The first train in the first video for example (Silver City Comet cars), usually ran with a power car plus cars. And yep I would call that DP (power car from the Silver City Comet) a locomotive.

PS: Anyone want to tell him if the Silver City Comet would pass a noise test today :hehe:

using other track

thanks for your input Red Rattler.

yes, when I started this map this indeed was the one I chose to begin with and basically stuck with it. I've come to realize that my creation is somewhat basic now that I have a chance to look around. I checked the download station for what kind of routes were available for download and found that they pretty well all had a lot of dependencies which I did not want to get into right now. I started Trainz with a Sandbox demo and realized that this was something special and purchased the TRS2006 and later railwayz edition.
They came with scenerios which were interesting but what I wanted was lots of action happening around me of the automated fashion, train flybys pickup deliveries etc. and then I could choose which one to go with and the rest of the trains were there to create atmosphere which I enjoy. I would like to keep the creation so that if someone else were to use it then they would not have to go hunting for dependencies.

As for as the trains go,which are the most important to me, I chose ones that worked well and the reason for having an engine at both end is to allow for direction reversal and just moving to the other end of the train to carry on, I realize that is not a reality but then it is a simulator and medium for fantasy and really thats what we are all doing Fantasysing some more real than others.

I see the value in what you are saying but if that would create an outside the box dependency then that would move me in a direction that I am trying to stay away from, since I am trying to create an ease of use experience.

Since I have installed three levels of trainz and imported content from each I feel I should uninstall and and reload the trs2006 from the Railwayz disk which is the latest and import only my cdp's of this creation to ensure that I am staying true to ease of use. I don't think most of the senior Trainz community would be interested in this Map because I'm using Basic stations etc. The main purpose is for the user to get out in the countryside and enjoy the run, the material pickup and delivery is pretty ballanced so if you ignore a tie up then you may find trains with undelivered goods or trains empty when the should have material on board, so I could say it was a KEEP THE BALL ROLLING type of scenario I found that after about four hours of operation you would have to alter the trains pickup and deliver schedule, so a save might be a good idea prior to doing that, so it does have a challenge to it. Thanks for your input.
