Using flight simulator controls for Trainz

Hi all. I'm very new to train simulators but very involved with flight sims. Is there any software out there that will allow me to assign my levels and buttons from a flight sim throttle controller so it will work on Trainz. I would really like to save the $$$ of buying the rail driver controller. Thanks in advance.

One other question. Being new to Trainz, any suggestions of what add-ons I should download or purchase to bump up from the stock '06 program. Thanks again.

The above sites metioned are some some of the best for US Content. There is quite a bit there but its high qaulity so you will enjoy.

As far as we know there is no way to take the Flight Sim controller and reprogram it to run Trainz, sorry. That never has been done before, be cool if you could though.

I'm not sure if you can use the flightsim controller for trainz, but in my opinion, you don't really need a controller, unless you are going for realism of course.

Here's an idea for you.

Raildriver uses various key combinations that are listed in Trainz to achieve what it does.

TrackIR also does this and I believe that it is used in Flightsim.

I have done some limited trials with a hand held controller, and on my list of things to do someday is using a joystick.

The thing is if your controller is programmable there's a fair chance you can use it.

If you use ch controllers, I can confirm that it can be programmed to be able to work with trains through the Control Manager app. I have the ch pro throttle USB set up and working with trainz.

Basically, you need to define axis movements as keystrokes.
Not ideal, and takes a bit of extra effort, but it works.
