Using EMD engine specs/engine sounds in GE locomotives

So, here it is 2013 almost 2014 and Trainz has been out for well over a decade. Why are content creators and reskinners still making GE locomotives that use EMD engine specs/engine sounds? For example the DASH-8 and DASH-9 series. Running these in the game and hearing it sound like a GP38-2 is one of the silliest things I've ever heard. I'm starting to think these creators spend no time around trains in real life? GE's and EMD's do not even sound remotely similar in real life. There's a DASH-8 engine spec and only 15 engines in my Content Manager use that. I don't get it.

Jointed Rail has some GE's with real GE engine sounds, so does World of Trainz, but there payware.

Cheers.

Thanks for the info. That's what I figured. But I do think there is freeware out there too, but everyone is stuck in their ways. Stuff like this is why some people don't take Trainz seriously in comparison to other Rail Sim games. Don't get me wrong I love the sound of an old standard cab EMD. Or any EMD at all. But a GE should sound like a GE.

If you don't like the sounds/specs you can change them easily enough. Just switch the Kuid numbers in the Config file.

I'm not either a perfectionist or learned in what engine sounds are supposed to sound like, so you might find an EMD engine sound on one of my GE locomotives, or vicey-versey... I just go with what I like.

Yes, I know it drives some people bananas when they download one of my locomotives only to find the engine sounds, horns, specs, etc. aren't just so-so, but like I said, it's easily fixed by switching out kuid numbers in the Config file.

[By the way, Justin, I sent you a PM. Did you get it?]

Cheers,

Dave

I am with you on that Dave. If you don't like what you hear or wish to be prototypical, change the "enginesound" kuid to one of your liking. It's nothing to make an issue of. Keep criticizing others creations, they may withdraw their assets!

I'm with Dave and JohnnyC1 as well on this. If you don't like it, you can always fix it yourself. This is unlike other programs where you're stuck with what you're given.

Keep in mind too, PARAILFAN, that many people may like the looks of the locomotives on the outside but have no way of obtaining the actual sounds of the real thing. They could possibly be located in another part of the world where these locomotives don't exist and all they have access to are the built-in sounds, and have no way of knowing what the difference is between a GE or EMD locomotive.

I disagree with you on that. You are way off base. There is a place called Youtube where you can watch a video on pretty much any type of locomotive or train there is no matter where you are in the world. There is no excuse.

Sure, it's great FUN to change 20 or so configuration files in one day because they are all wrong. That's time I could be spending actually PLAYING the game. Why is it nothing to make an issue of? No need to be a smart *** about it.

just because you can watch them doesn't mean you can get sounds for them. i would guess most people would need to ask permission to use sounds belonging to others (i hope), and some might not even bother. hardly anyone is going out and making actual recordings unless it can be justified for say, payware. if they are doing it for free, be happy you got what you got.

What's your point? What's your rush, changing 20+ assets is not a big deal!

PARAILFAN seeing as you have brought up this discussion and critique on sounds available, why not create some yourself, then there will be no excuse for the rest of us using the wrong ones.
Or are you another of the I want this and I want it now and it better be perfect and of course it better be free.

There are sounds out there on the DLS but what I mean is some aren't being utilized in the assets. Youtube and also Wikipedia are good for research. Wiki says what loco uses what type of engines in them. There are whole sites dedicated to the specs on locos. You guys that are posting replies do great work, some of the best on Trainz. But I'm done with this thread and will go no further with it. It's not getting through.

There is no need for that kind of response. I've made my contributions to rail sim games, with photos of real life objects for people to work off of, and with research on dimensions, etc. Everyone has their thing, that's my thing. That and doing layouts in Surveyor for my personal use. It comes down to if you're gonna do something, why waste your time doing it just half right? I guess it's fine if a kid is playing a game. They won't notice the difference if anything is not right lol.

Maybe we should have a poll here to see how many content creators have used information giving by PARAILAN, because you sure have not added anything to the DLS that could be of use to any other user. so get off your high horse and create these sounds you are so fond off

What is your problem? The SOUNDS are already out there, but no one is putting them in their assets. It's that simple, really it is. No high horse or anything. You are getting so upset I take it you must be one of those ones doing it. I did not say I put things on the DLS, because I do not have the time to spend on using GMAX, sketchup, etc. I'm grateful for those who do.

okay well i'm not going to see any on my install because i don't have any dash 8s or other GEs using that EMD sound so - simple answer. if you don't like them change them to something you do like or just don't use those items. you only have to do it once.

I have always noticed an unrealistic engine sound to the default Auran locos, but never got around to changing them, but it is easily accomlplished
