USERDATA TRANSFER

I am posting this thread to to see if this as been tried;

I decided to upgrade my computer therefore I had a Clean install I have loaded both t2010 and t2012 I included all the patches etc.
however instead of using the tried and tested way of transfering the assets by way of the cmp I decided to go to the program opened the file
and moved the user data folder out I then replaced it with the saved one, the transfer only took 15 min. I started the program and all my content and settings were there I didn't even have to do a edr. I was wondering if anyone else as tried this method I couldn't find anything on the forum mentioning this.

I did that. I was not that lucky that it only took 15 minutes (probably a lot slower HD on my side), but it did save me hours of downloading.

It may work, but I strongly do not recommend the method as there is a high chance of asset loss.

It is far better to use Import Content within Content Manager - be aware though that if you want to use Multiplayer, you will need to redownload assets anyway.

What you are basicly doing is setting back a back-up.
So maybe you need a database repair, but you dont need to download stuff to use MP as you did not import content and there for you did not get stuff flagged as locally modified. Since you did not modify stuff, this is correct and no risk for MP.

I cant help you with 2010.

I have had no asset loss infact When I used the normal method I did have alot of asset errors, and had to redownload, this way there wasn't any.
I do not use multiplayer anyway.

Only one small issue with your workings there.

The way TS12 determines what is locally modified and what is not is by which folder it is in, so restoring a backup (whichever method is used) will result with some assets being marked as locally modified.

are you talking about t2010 to t2010, t2012 to t2012 or t2010 to t2012 userdata, because I have not tried the latter

All of the above, especially if you only copy over the userdata folder.

Shane

I have checked the cmp none of my routes have missing assets all the builtin content is there as far as I am concerned this method is good enough for me.
I was only interested to know if anyone else had tried this method and been successful.

I wonder if an asset is marked as locally modified if it could be reverted to clear the flag? Just wondering because I don't care since I don't use multi-player.

Regarding the restoring of data, this is one of many methods.

I have done things this way with great success.

Another way just saving a complete copy of Trainz install folder and repasting on the hard drive. This is also great for running the program from another computer.
