Not necessarily, hi-res textures do better than you think even when zoomed out or taken from a higher elevation.

I guess I'm just picky. Ground textures and achieving realistic effects are what I try to strive at. I'm never happy with my own work and have spent hours on single textures sometimes just getting the rotational effect perfect.
