USA Pics

Hi Bill - long time :)

You're right, but you're wrong! The post that brought the discussion on was jmano33's post at #23468 which shows a lash up of 5 Gevos plus an SD70 (or 80, I can never remember which is which LOL) which led to the 26k HP quip, which led to the 19000 tons on 3% reply which set me to thinking....

Thinking some more, theoretical adhesion is quoted on perfect wheels and perfect rail and dead level - on 3% in working conditions it's gonna be a good bit less. Then to that 19k tons you have to add the weight of the 10 locos, so you probably need to add yet another loco to counter the backward slide of the 10 (or 9!) you've already got. It's gettin' silly LOL. There's a busted knuckle in there somewhere.....

Well, thats one good thing of having some un-realism in trainz...stuff like this is possible haha

Farther off topic!

@ Bill & Josh - I'm gonna get kicked out of the forums for this, but in all honesty I'm damned if I can tell one modern US loco from another - they are all the same - big, brutal, functional and ugly! That doesn't mean I don't love 'em, or the creators who make running them in Trainz possible, I just honestly can't pick one from the other. I go way back - I can pick a GP7 from a GP9 on a dark night with my back turned, but modern stuff.....

Andy :)

lol I know what you mean.. Its often you have to look right up close to see it. But if you want to be shown some distinguishing differences feel free to PM me. I have seen many different kinds of locomotives and can tell quite a few of them apart

Hallo Andy,

you probably will not been kicked out of here. I am your man in this matter. But I would go even faster. A lot of technical stuff been developed in our day looks just the same way as many others. Just see some modern streetcar (or now LRT) designs in comparison to some modern buses. Just go further an see how the modern cruise ships looks like - just ugly - very ugly! But for sure it provides a maximum of luxury to as many people as possible. Fortunately I know it just from several interesting reports.

Well the trainz content creators of course can not influence how the original stuff looks like.

I like the old stuff - it seems to have a lot more personality to me :-)

Have a good one.

Reminds me of a joke from my grandfather:

When someone commented, "There's a mail truck" he would adjust his glasses and say, "Your eyesight is a LOT better then mine!"

@Andy and Bill

Trust me, I have a hard time sometimes with the new ES44AH's and ES44AC's CSX is getting in. Only reason I knew the power there was because I found the easiest engines to remember haha

Oh my gosh Erik! Splendid work on the ARMN reefers! Those are perfect for any UP Fruit Loop (UP Fruit Express, yes folks, it is a Z-train and is higher priority than intermodals.)

Milwaukee Road piggyback “Sprint” train No. 209 heads west at Duplainville, Wisconsin....The standard Sprint train locomotive consist of two GP40s hustles the train past milepost 102 (from Chicago)

You know me Andy. Just having a bit of fun. Believe me, I have a problem distinguishing between some of the newer locomotive designations too. Especially those morphadight's they call upgrades.

I don't think you have to worry about that, Andy. Even I have trouble with some of the modern engines and I'm only 21!! Somehow in the quest to make railway locomotives ever-more fuel efficient there has been a major case of locomotive ugliness going around the modern railroads. Thankfully some of the older ones still remain to shake things up every now and then.

Where did this second loco come from???

All of those are Jointed Rail payware engines. I have several payware engines from them and it's worth the price they ask for them. Currently the NS Interstate ES44AC heritage unit is the item of the week and priced at $5.00 until this coming Friday. Also their content will only work in Trainz 2009, Trainz 2010, and Trainz 2012. And while I'm mentioning them, I know people will say RRMods payware is good too. Now I have both RRMods and JR payware. Both are good places to get payware, but most of the RRMods payware engines do not have ARN(Their latest freeware has ARN, don't know if they added it to the payware yet). That aside, both JR and RRMods have reliable, good running, well detailed prototype content both modern railroads and fallen flags.
