The scale test cars are of a known weight, which are used to calibrate the scales that weigh cars containing a bulk commodity. They are not for testing locomotives.

Scale test cars are filled with a dense substance weather it be sand or water. They act as "dummy" freight cars when testing locomotives.

I actually saw one of these on the tail end of a BNSF train on the Cajon sub, it was very low light conditions so I couldn't get a good picture :(. I was under the impression they were pulled onto scales to test the accuracy of the scale in the same way they do scales for 18 wheeler's. thought it was really odd to see a car so small on the back of a train so I did some research and it came up with this ^.^ the one I saw looked very similar to this with the possible exception of the one I saw was probably a BNSF instead of SP, Regardless it's a great looking car lilb.

Nice work Chris, Sure is a great route from the Trainzitalia boy's.
Cheers Mick.:)
Thanks it sure is! What makes it most fun is the ability to be able to drive long trains and short local trains back and forth all day! It looks especially good when you got a JR SD70ACe and Joe's GP35 doing today's Laramie Local, thats 3500 tons thanks to a whole bunch of cement and rocks! And it has to wait on the Z-train blasting by with the C40-8's anyway so....

Thanks!
And as always, Have fun!
Chris

Nice Joe, I love the one that has the guy with a snickers bar! Guess you gotta eat something out there watching trains lol!
