Actual picture taken around 1972. The park is gone and the entire site is a giant parking lot for truck trailers that the brewery uses today. It was kind of nice to have a theme park where you could get free beer all day to bad I was only 9 or 10 years old at the time.

I don't think this looks anything like a C30-7 and that's because its not anything other than a U33c

they didn't have any C30-7s, therefore JR doesn't have any SP C30-7s.

however i will say the model shown does look like a C30-7 because it appears to have a slightly large radiator section that is more like the -7 than the earlier U models.

Not sure what you are looking at... I don't see a c30-7 at all... Yea it might look close but it is defiantly not.

The real SP 8793 at Taylor Yard LA 1976

The closest SP ever got to owning a C30-7 was in 89 and it was in Kodachrome Paint.

As it should be... :)

"The GE U33C was one of the company's most powerful six-axle models, and one of the last it would build before introducing the upgraded "Dash 7" line. Once GE had gotten its foot in the door, so to speak, with the popular U30C model, its sales began to take off for future models like the U33C.... The GE U33C began production in January, 1968, a few years after the U30C. The model featured a slight increase in power to 3,300 horsepower using the company's standard 4-cycle model FDL16 prime mover. With a tractive effort rating of 91,650 pounds starting and 92,500 pounds continuous this was on par with earlier models like the U30C and U28C. Perhaps the biggest difference of the U33C from earlier models was the addition of a flared rear radiator. It first appeared on the sister U33B model as well and gave the units the appearance of wings. The purpose of this design was for the increase in horsepower and the feature became a trademark of GE's locomotives, which remains to this day."

You can see this in this proto photo here: http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/c-boat_photos/8626_sp-u33c-bob_dengler.jpg This picture shows the flared radiators that were a trademark of the U33C.

The C30-7 and the U33C look similar, the 2 main differences are the C30-7 had a "Bulge" in in the car body in front of the radiator, while the U33C did not. The Smoke stack is smaller on the U33C.

I am looking forward to you U33C release, and thanks for at least considering what I suggested .... :)

you are misunderstanding what i am saying. i mean people are confusing it because they do look similar, but they are not the same. that being the case, i never painted a C30-7 into SP because none exist (that is why JR has none). that is the point i have been trying to get across lately.

my response was to this:

JR doesnt have a Southern Pacific C30-7 idk if SP even had em or not

Mea culpa. The pitfalls of internet communications, where context and subtext can all too often get lost in translation. :) I totallly mis-read what you were saying inasmuch as I thought you were suggesting the reason for the misunderstanding was that the flared radiators on the U33C made it look like a C30-7, and that this was not correct for a U33C.

My bad. Carry on!
