The area between San Luis Obispo and San Jose is not the Central Valley. The Central Valley runs between the Coastal Range and the west slope of the Sierra Nevadas. The area you would be running between SLO and SJ would be on the Central Coast, or perhaps the Salinas Valley, on the west side of the Coastal Range from the Central Valley. As someone who was born and raised in the Central Valley (Manteca, to be exact), and who served at Ft. Ord, there is a difference between the three...Coast Daylight rumbles through the Central Valley between San Luis Obispo and San Jose.
