US Passenger Cars

Hey guys,

I'm just curious as to whether anyone at all is either making, planning to or knows someone who is making some US passenger consists or even just more passenger cars or evening just planning to. I mean yes there are some on the DLS but they just are to simple and out dated, no offence to any creator's out there but it's time for an overhaul and yes there are "some" passenger cars on the DLS but there is a serious lack of them (this being US content of course) I mean are there any sites out there that specialise in this area. I've been searching for so long and still have found not really much:( I would pay a good 200 maybe 300 for a consist (of course with high amounts of detail and of decent size in terms of car numbers) please can anyone help me here or at least answer the question in terms of whether anyone is at least planning on remaking some US passenger consists or more passenger cars.

I and many here I think will vouch for Whitepass' Heavyweight Sleepers. We're seriously lacking in pretty much every other type Passenger car though (Some very few notable exceptions). K&L has PRR Heavyweight Coaches, but they're unquestionably PRR and can't be reskinned. Nobodies done a decent *heavy* Combine, Coach, Lounge, Parlor, Diner, Smoking, or Observation car as yet. Someone did some decent Baggage Cars at least.

Streamlined Cars are in an almost worse position. Landrvr1 did some decent ones with what I'll call "Half Interiors", but they're not available for Public Download (There is a gentleman you can ask for a copy for them though), but aside from that all we have are very 2D boxy '04 & '06 Cars with no windows, interiors, often no appliances, or any other detail.

There are some Amtrak Cars floating around of various types (Horizons, Amfleets) of varying quality, and PerRock's Superliners are worth a download, but we could use some updated Superliners if someone wanted to tackle that.

Finally, for Modern, there are some pretty nice Bombardier cars floating around that have been reskinned, but thats essentially Transit only. No decent NA Talgos either (Though STR have done some OUTSTANDING Talgo Models, they're all in RENFE (I think thats Spains train service?) Paint).

This is all just my opinion mind, but I would be another VERY Interested in seeing more passenger stock floating around,

Paul Weiser (pweiser) made some New Haven heavyweight, American Flyer, and streamline cars that might be useful for you. They're pretty generic even though they're lettered for the New Haven.

Much in agreement with Falcus, we need a lot more passenger rolling stock. There was a website streamlinerz that was undertaking the task of not just one but several Us consists including the S5 daylight and the UP City of San Francisco but I think it's safe to say that project has been abandoned from what I can see may still be going. And yes white pass you have made some amazing heavyweight cars I should know I've got them all I think but it's more consists I'm really talking about and other passenger stock, so that I could run a nice excursion train or something like that. Is there anyone out there planning to remake some US consists? Anyone?

Good point, I had forgotten about PWeiser, and I was just looking at his latest thread the other day too. Still, you do have to put up with things like Orange Doors and what not.... Its livable, but not good enough for jazz? IDK...

I would think so, having ridden in those cars in real life! :D

Back in the 1980s, the MBTA inherited a bunch, along with many, many cars from various railroads, including antique RDCs, from Conrail when Conrail gave up the commuter service. I rode a commuter train to Boston one day with RDCs, running as coaches, from Reading, New Haven, Boston Albany, and Canadian National. Going home there were no RDCs, but instead former cars lettered for the New Haven, with orange stripes and doors, Boston and Albany, and the Baltimore and Ohio.

It was an interesting trip both ways...

IMO, the best US passenger cars are the ones that come in the Blue Comet set. The interiors are gorgeous. It can be brought (pretty cheaply now) from the N3V store. Also, if you're OK with something a bit different on your passenger trains, you can't go wrong with the Aerotrain!
The landlvr1 coaches are certainly nice, although they may throw up bugs in TS2012. There is aswell the comprehensive set of PRR coaches that come with the T1 pack.

Oh, Pweiser's cars definitely deserve to be on the list of decent Passenger cars. But what I mean is that even though they're a little less badged then most Cars on most roads, there are still lots of small things on them that make them notably NH. The one redeeming thing about them is that they're great for towing around in an excursion train, say behind a recently released NKP765 for instance, lol. But if you're building a Marias Pass from the 40's, they'd look a little out of place.... Same as the NEC post the 1980s..... They're kind of in a Niche.

I've got some passenger cars on my site. Currently, I have NKP, B&M, and C&O sets up, but there are some more on the way that I have done including Erie, PRR, DL&W, EL, B&O, L&N, and NYC.

Yup... Very true.

Speaking of passenger cars in general, I suggested this over in the JR forum regarding new material for them to create.

We need generic passenger cars that can represent any road, however modeled nicely, so they don't look out of place.

There are some really nice UP cars on the DLS by diecastgalore. They are really nice cars, I love them.

I was trying to keep the focus on the passenger cars. :)

The kicker is I didn't even know the train came through otherwise I would have caught some videos of it myself as it rolled through Bradford up through New Hampshire. There's a great view of the rail line as it crosses the Merrimack River between Bradford depot and Haverhill station.
