A little history. Having followed the valley of the Delaware River to Port Jervis, the Erie turns north several miles slowly climbing along the flank of the Shawangunk Mountain, the same mountain that forms the Delaware Water Gap further south, until the railroad reaches the Otisville gap in the mountain that allowed it to turn east toward the Hudson River. Originally there was a higher route through the gap, but in 1908 the railroad bored a double track tunnel to reduce the grade and used it as their freight line, while sending passenger service over the original main line. In 1953 they tore up the high grade track, and also single tracked the tunnel to allow for high and wide loads.

I dearly wish someone would do some proper Alco's.

Anyway, some from me.

NOT the day you want your truck braking down. And so close to town, one can under stand Mr. Wilson's anger and shouting being directed at Herr Jaeger, the owner of Central's Gas station.

Also, GC&T frieght 72, lead by 4-6-0s 9 & 10 go across the overpass of highway 49 at about 20 mph.

End of the train as she heads north...
