URGENT: Serious technical problem.

Hi all, I've encountered a severe computer problem and am looking for a way to back up a route I've spent much effort on. Under normal circumstances this is chicken feet, but today Windows will not allow me to even start Trainz Launcher.

I have tried installing another OS and Trainz on top of it but it still refuses to run, giving me the "encountered an error and needs to close message". Is there an alternative method to backing up other than CM2?

I'm thinking of copying out the entire Local folder (since trying to find my route in that pile of folders with gibberish names is quite dumb) and saving it on another drive, then importing the folder (overwriting as required) with my fresh copy of Trainz on a fresh install of xp. Is this possible?

Nicholas.

Much relieved to hear that. Thank you Euphod. I was so close to losing Coal County v2 like what happened to v1 which perished in a hard drive failure.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

No, just copy your local folder, when you re-install Trainz copy the folder back in and then run CM2 to rebuild the database.

Thank you all. Should reinstall soon after backing up other important stuff. Progress should resume in a few days.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

Guys, I've copied the local folder into my new installation. The new assets are not reflected in Railyard or Surveyor. What's going on?

You may have to force a rebuild on the asset database(unless you already treid this) by deleting the assets.tdx file that may have been made.. Other then that I am at a loss at how it wouldn't fix the issue.
