Updating Trainz items?

I posted this in the freeware forum, had 55 views but no answers.

This may have been asked before but I can't find a reference to it.

If I update an older item and cannot get in touch with the author I can't distribute the item. So my question is, can I distribute a new config.txt file that will fix it? The item in question is on the DLS and a new config.txt file replacing the old one makes it work error free in TS2009 & TS2010. I have been working on a route I would like to upload and now have only the one item with errors, this item sometimes crashes the program.

Best thing to do is to see if it's on the DLS Cleanup list - if it is, then you can upload the fix as part of that process, as long as you follow the DLS Cleanup rules.
