Updating DirectX 9.0c- how to do it

Problems with Trainz doing this.

:'( I have been stressed for 3 days about opening Content in Trainz 12, and then I downloaded DirectX9, and now content opens! I was so happy, but then, when I went to PLAY Trainz 12, the tiniest window opens, and I can see the game in it, and I can't open the window any bigger. Go here to see the video of what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvV9jrQfSfA

That's not good, I've seen something similar with TS2009 previously.

Might be worth checking your settings in the Trainz Options box (you can reach this by clicking Options on the Launcher)

Ideally, you want it to be set to Fullscreen, at the same resolution as the screen, and at 32-bit colour depth.

Also, registering it will help.

It can help with crashing issues as well as sometimes improving performance. For best results, both DirectX and graphics card drivers need to be up to date.

I just wanted to say thanks for this useful information. I was just forced to do a clean re-install of Windows 7-64 due to a dead hard drive. After the re-install the Content Manager would not start up, and trying to run it by hand from the TS2012 bin directory showed that it needed DX9. In my case, using the latest DX Web install, I was able to install DX9 just fine (it did not complain that newer versions were already installed), and Content Manager now runs. Thanks again.

Further developments...

To assist users who are downloading the redistributable version, I have developed a helper utility that will basically automate the process, from the downloading stage right through to completion. I will be uploading it later on today. The tool requires administrator privileges to run, and will automatically cause a UAC prompt when run in Windows Vista or 7 - click Continue or Yes if this happens.

There is one small issue when using it with Windows Vista or 7 - for some reason, the Program Compatibility Assistant is popping up at the end of the process. Until I can sort out what is causing this, it is possible to dismiss it by telling it that the program installed correctly.

EDIT: For details of the utility, see the sticky thread relating to it in this forum.

Hi Kirk,

Please post your system specs and perhaps we can help. This may or may not be video related, but do install the DirectX 09c libraries using the above-mentioned utility. This is required even though Content Manager uses Open/GL. Keep in mind too that Trainz does need to run as Administrator on all modern operating systems such as WIndows Vista (yuck) and above.

Also keep in mind that Trainz does not run well on a laptop or desktop computer utilizing the built-in Intel video chip.

I recently installed all the latest required NVidia drivers as directed by trainz, but during a system reset (Windows 8 YUCK!), it removed DirectX. I have reinstalled it and checked all the video drivers but there seems to be no logical explanation. I started saying it need a particular file, but when I installed said file, it started coming up with this message. Any ideas? My computer uses an AMD E1 core and (to my knowledge) the latest NVidia drivers. Cheers

I tried the link and it went through a repair process, but it still hasn't made any difference. Is there any other possibilities?

Could it be that it's missing DirectX9c and he's only installed reinstalled DX11 rather than specifically Dx9c?
