UP West Line

Western Ave Yards. If anyone has a suggestion for a bridge by the diamonds, I'd be very happy :D

Oh, whatever. I just used the measuring tool in Google Earth, used rulers in game and laid track accordingly. It's pretty usefull.

Which bridge, the one in the picture or the one over the Fox?

Great. If you consider that easy, the rest should be cake! Keep it up, it looks excellent.

As for bridge problems...
I thought origionally that I'd build the bridge in Geneva, but since I still have to finish the things mentioned earlier, it may be a while. Unless someone else feels the urge...

As for yours, that's more like a tunnel! I really don't know what to say. Perhaps someone else does.

Ok. Well, I'm sorry Steve if I misread your post, but that kind of bridge that I am using in Geneva is "Through Plate Girder Bridge No Pylon", and I believe that it is built into 2009. May I ask what bridge you used in that bridge you used in your first post? Is there a rustier one? I ask because I may be using it on the other Geneva bridge over the river in a slight kitbashing project, and that is exactly what I'm looking for!

Also, I've asked a variety of questions that were open for anyone to answer. And yet, for the past page, Steveo and I have been the only two talking. There's been over a thousand views on this thread, so I know you must be out there! So please; fanmail, suggestions... hatemail (though not exactly preferred, at least it'd be something!:hehe: ), any input would be appreciated. I'll try to have some more screenshots by tomarrow.

This is a screenshot of same area I used the TTR UNDERPASS 1
Its a spline also.....

I have yet to add the yard here which I basing more early era 60-70s
of Chicago area.....

Route lookin good by the way............

Dave =)

Hey UP4021 on a question earlier post about bridges....
I have a few things I use ya can find on DLS

CGM Bridge concrete (track object) several variety
Abutment-concrete (track object)

Ret Wall No Fence (spline) makes great abutments and walls downtown

JJS Plate Girder Bridge (track spline) several versions

Box Deck Girder 60 (object) this by SPORBUST has different versions
theyre a full AB and Bridge combo...

Now my question do you know what the CNW called theyre freight line that
ran North of 40th av yd/West Chicago yd (long gone) and crossed MILW (bloomingdale line) at Cragin jct (long gone) and ran north and connected to the NW LINE at Montrose....

Thanks again for the bridges. I'll look into them.

As for yours, I might know what you're talking about, but some of these are slightly baffling. Something that might help is: how long gone?
I've got tracks running north/south out of West Chicago paralleling the EJ&E for a while, but those are still in use. Between the two lines when they split however, there is a path that I believe was once trackage that also run out of West Chicago.
Also, the yard in West Chicago of which I've been refering to is actually in West Chicago, and is not so long gone:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1660146
and, correct me if I'm wrong, but 40th Ave. is a lot closer to the city; a bit north of Proviso.
Plus, these all meet up with the Northwest in Elgin.
So right now... I don't really know. You got anything Steveo?

http://www.dhke.com/ihbarchive/ihbmaps.html

this a 1958 IHB map the page click on north map you ll see the BRC runnning north where the 40th av yard runs north at Chicago av a small yard theyre is called West Chicago yard then runs north and reconnects after Montrose...
On the Google maps I see no Metra stations and it is still active industry....
So I believe it was strictly a freight line til late 70 s.....
(long gone) referring to tracks are gone just traces of old ties etc....

I have no idea what it's called, I just know it's the current Belt Line that runs from Grand/Cicero to Clearing. Sorry :/

Ah, that yard. How could I forget? That was the one that had until recently a coaling tower. Yeah, I take the same position as Steveo. That's all I know. Sorry we weren't much help.
However, if it's historical pictures you need, have you tried here?
http://www.historicaerials.com/
It's good if you are just looking. Otherwise you need to buy the pictures. I just checked, and thay have pictures of a good chunk of it from 1973, and a ton of it from 1972.

Alright folks, I've got some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that at least I am still very heavily thinking about it.

The bad news is that my hard drive has been making a wierd klicking noise, and I expect that it will be toast within the next few days. Luckily, I have heeded the warnings, and backed everything up. So, though not permanently done, work from this side is done for a while until I get a new computer. Money has been tight around here though, and I don't suspect that that will be for a while. I'll stay on the forums, this is not my only computer. I have a few near-junk ten-year-old laptops laying around, but trainz won't be working for a while. So, I knew that this would be a long-term project, but I'm afraid that it will be a bit longer than expected.
Sorry.:'(

Well that bytes..........
Hope to see this finished one day..........
Thnx again for the historical map site I finished off 40th av yard and the west chicago yard basically crossing back and forth from 1962-1972 and basically
eye balled a general idea of the yard layouts (freelanced)...

good luck on a new comp soon...........

Dave =)

Alright, well...
it's gone.

Fortunately, it was just the drive that was added on for space. The real hard drive with the operating system stuff doesn't have enough space for all my Trainz stuff, but it should still be enough space for gmax. This gives me a chance to catch up on some things as far as that's concerned. I've also got a badly neglected HO scale layout sitting in the basement, so...
we'll see how things go.

Line along Kenton Street is the Belt Railway of Chicago, not nearly as busy as it was back in the day, but still running.

http://www.beltrailway.com/

40th Street, 40 blocks west of State, was renamed to Crawford and later Pulaski, the actual western end of 40th street yard was at the BROC overpass, 4600 west (I grew up at 4800 West Fulton, 2 blocks from 40th Street yard). The Belt Line runs north/south and passes over the C&NW (now UP), and the Lake Street Elevated (Green Line) running parallel to the C&NW about half a block south passes high over the Belt Line. Here's a pic taken from the El crossing over the Belt Line;

The bridge in the center of the pic is where the C&NW crossed under the Belt Line, 40th Street yard on the right. Brachs Candy unfortunately closed a few years ago. This;

Was also taken from the EL crossing the Chicago River, the commuter train on the left is a Metra coming out of Ogilve heading west.
