UP under wire?

It is 2015, and a pair of motors haul a Union Pacific freight up the Harriman cut-off on Sherman Hill.

Inspired by the Photoshopped cover of this month's Trains magazine showing some future UP motors hauling a coal train. Did you know that the Union Pacific had a section of test catenary on Sherman Hill back in the seventies? Nothing came of it then, but today both BNSF and NS are looking into major electrification projects.

Nice, but I think the LKAB IOREs would look better as a US electric freight loco. Hunt throught the swedish section for the thread on them.

Those are nice locos and I found them quite easily. Thank you. Might be fun to reskin them into Norfolk Southern colors, as that was the other Trains illustration inside the magazine.

I just looked at your 1st screenshot and it is real. Meaning Union Pacific does have electric locomotives. I just saw it in my latest TRAINS magazine. I have not had time to read the article yet, but when I do. I will post here again.

Why would UP have Rhinos/Hippos(eg. HHP-8/HHLs)? I thought the TRAINS Magazine cover was just a photoshop-job.

In the article they indicated that GE had stated that they woud need three years to convert one of their current diesel-electrics to dual use with pantographs or some such, using existing traction motors, the idea being that the electrification would have to proceed in stages. Might look nearly the same...but it sure wouldn't sound the same. Personally I would like to see some little joes.

As I said, it was photoshopped. They credited one person for the "photographic illustration" and then two additional photographers, all for the same image.
