Yes, it makes sense. Probably it's really question of each RR, because Canadian freights are named like CP 220-09, where 220 is probably kind of train/route and 09 is chronologically issued number.
 
Your answer is good for me, because sometimes I don't know how to name my consists. I completed them for example from YouTube videos, but uploadeds often don't write names of trains. So if I would know (for example) the train comes from Fuller to Stanton, with coal, the name could be "FUSTC 010" - this mean 10th train per day. Or it could FSC 010 too...?
