Um, y'all goofed on the DD40

Why does the DD40 have a generic SD cab? Especially considering the custom DD40 cab was included in the TS12 - it just wasn't used? Was there a reason?

Hmmm. Nothing? Not one comment? Not even a smart a$$ed one? Weird.

Does no one use the loco? I don't normally, I just found it as a result of doing research on it's interior. After looking over it's code (the actual DD40 interior that is) I realized that if I loaded it in game, I wasn't seeing that cab.

I'm fresh outa' comments at this present time ... If I ran the DD40X, I would change the enginesound, hornsound, change the cab ... and re-skin it PRR brunswick green, or tuscan red.

I would use more often, but the quality of it, versus the built-in SP SD45, ATSF SD45, etc. looks inferior to me. Blech!

If you have the right cab let me know what it is As I do use that Loco, Thanks frogpipe

Go into the thing with CMP and re-assign the cab KUID. Its just that simple...

Oh I know, and I did, it's the fact that the game SHIPPED with it mis-assigned that I was getting at. I was wondering if there was a reason why - guess I was giving the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't an example of N3V's shining quality control and testing.

It's right in the bloody game believe it or not. Just open the CM and put "DD40" in the search. One of the items you should see is something like "Gen DD40 Int" or something similar. That's the one.

In case you were wondering about the actual loco, The SD cab was used on the same type engine but it was called a DD35, if there were any other differences they were almost unnoticeable

Frogpipe,
I believe that locomotive has been in trainz since at least TRS2004. To the best of my knowledge you are the first to ask about it. Again to to the best of my knowledge it has been that way since TRS2004.
Why they did not change I am not sure. It may be that no one has asked.:)

I suspect the "SD style" cab on the DD40 is the propagation of a model railroading error that dates back about 40 years, or so. In the 1960's, Irv Athearn took published projected designs of several EMD prototypes, and made and released HO scale versions before EMD ever sold a 12 inches to the foot version. In several cases, this was not a major issue, but by the time two of the units--the "SW 15" and the DD40 were actually manufactured, there were design changes at EMD so that the actually constructed versions did not match the Athearn models. One of my early model railroad magazines had an article on scratchbuilding a wide cab for the Athearn DD40, to match the as built DD40AX, the UP "Centennial" diesels.

I'd go there with you IF it weren't for the obviously different front windows on the cab on the exterior model and the much bigger matter of the matching and UNUSED interior model...

My comments are intended relative to the reason that the "kitbash" was done, not necessarily on the quality of the implementation. I had the opportunity to view an unreleased route that used built in content to represent signature buildings which had the same effect. It was "sorta" right, as far as the skyline went, and someone not familiar with the particular area might find it an acceptable compromise, but to those familiar with the situation, the differences were glaring, kind of like seeing a famous drive in restaurant with a Scots name, but using chartreuse green arches; the impression might be there, but the details aren't. Hoperfully, though the burgers are better.

So, um... when I try to change the cab of the DD40X, it makes it faulty.... Yes, I know, big bump, but it's kinda important.

How did you do the change? What exactly did you change? What is the fault?
I opened the engine with CCP, and replaced the SD40-2 cab with the correct DD40 cab, but then the engine became faulty because of a bunch of "missing" texture.txt files... Reverting the engine makes it work again.

In Content Manager use Edit / Revert to original to change it back to what it was.

In CM use Edit / Edit in explorer. Edit Config.Txt to make the replacement. In CM use Edit / Commit.

You should not use CCP for this sort of editing.

Edited it in Explorer, still get the same error.
