UKTrainz Forum - Closure

It is rude and insensitive. Im all for banter and evrything but thats just not the idea.

How dare he being an Americ.... (o hang on im sure thats a sensivtive subject therefore I shall refrain from finishing that).

Whatever you name is (person from over the pond) think about how proud some people are to be their Nationality I know that if your homeland was insulted you would protest.

I have not posted on this forum recently to be honest I rarely look at it but when I do its a shame to have it ruined by such ignorance.

Kinda puts you off

You could at least try making sense now that you have.

Anyway, can't say I ever used UKTrainz forum. Not sure if I even visited it or not. Is this that the same site that some people here used to give off about? I recall reading a lot of negative comments about flamewars on a forum with a similar name? Apologies if I'm getting some forum names mixed up here. Sounds like I could have missed out on a wealth of knowledge.

Well, don't want to miss out on anything else I could find useful so I'm signed up for Mark's site.

I think you mean Uktrainsim, was always a good place for fighting, & still is :hehe:

I have used Uktrainz since just after it started and allowed anyone to join.. Sad to see it gone but great to see Marky has jumped in to fill the hole!

Sorry to see a old friend go!

As for trainz going down? Your never had it so good (unless you can not afford a bargain bin copy of TRS2009).

Okay, now to join Marky's site....can we have a Cornish section please! :hehe: I've got some Looe photo's to put up to start it! :p

Regards.

This was bad news indeed. I would like to thank ChileanLlama and Mike10 for hosting the TransDEM support forum for the last couple of years.

For TransDEM I am planning to set up a new forum on my own web site. It will take some time, though.

Sad to see UKTrainz go down for the last time.

Back when I first signed up to it it was the first thing on the internet I was a member of. Wanting to sign up to it saw me first use hotmail and MSN. I was on there before Facebook.

I could say that UKTrainz was my internet genesis.

*/nostalgia*

Thanks to CL, Mike10 and the membership for making it what it was.

Dave.

As has been said by others, I did not post much, but found the forum a valuable UK info and research tool. Very sad news indeed, thanks to CL and Mike10 for the ride.

would it be possible ChileanLlama to contract out the data base repair to someone else who has time and an even deeper understanding of it?

Part of the problem with that would be that there were a number of private forum sections also hosted on there as well as the main forum.

Mike.

Sorry to hear about the demise of UKTrainz.

Thanks to ChileanLlama, Mike at al for keeping it going this long.

As Amigacooke has pointed out the forum hosted sections for other people.

I do regret that as I was away from home when this occurred I didn't have access to email addresses, so was unable to give them advance notice what was happening, in particular Mike and Geophil.

As for contracting out the repairs. There are a number of issues here. As Mike has pointed out there is private discussion areas for projects etc, user credentials. Also in addition I would have to give them access to my host and database(s). Trust plays a large factor before allowing someone to do this.

The alternative would have been to contract someone in professionally, and the thought did cross my mind, but after paying for this for 7 years and not having been active for the last few the decision to cut my losses both in time and money, made sense.

As for anyone emailing or posting here requesting information from the forum. I regret that it's not available. Given the above if I could easily restore specific posts etc from the database, then it's likely I could easily restore the whole forum. As things stand it's not recoverable.

Now if Wikileaks thinks it's viable to repair, recover and publish the information in the database for free then that might be a solution ;)

Cheers guys

A shame to see it go but I guess all good things end - I haven't been very active on there myself though in recent months due to distraction with the "competition".

Probably the one trainsimming forum where I haven't had an argument or fallen out with someone at some point  . It always came across as a very mature and sensible place to have a conversation.

Glad to hear Roland is looking at alternatives for a Transdem support forum, there was some useful information/mapping links etc. on the UK Trainz one which are obviously now lost though understand and accept the complexities of retrieving it. I wonder if that Web Archive site would have historic pages stored?

I guess the TRS sections at UKTS and TS will become a little busier now.

Glad to hear Roland is looking at alternatives for a Transdem support forum
