UKTrainz Forum - Closure

Dear all,

After over 7 years, the UKTrainz forum has closed it's doors. Due to technical issues, and the amount of work which would be required to resolve them, I have decided to shut the UKTrainz forum immediately.

Thank you for your patronage over the years - I hope you enjoyed the ride.

Is it database or just the forum with the problem? If its the forum you could reinstall it and use the old database.

Mark

If its not fixable this is very sad news, a wealth of information and posts would be lost forever. It was one of the first places I would visit every day :'( .

Certainly is very sad news, it was a haven of calm. The english Trainzdem support forum was there as well.

Thanks to ChileanLlama and Mike10 for their hard work over the years. It was (and is) very much appreciated.

That's bad news, I may not have posted much there but always checked daily. Thought it was just a temporary glitch until I saw this thread.

This is a big blow - and a lot of useful information now lost, including various consents and permissions from creators.

I noticed something wasn't quite right late afternoon / early evening as most of the topic posts disappeared.

Was it a virus or hacking attack?

It's a database issue, though if I could have fixed it, it did need a forum software update in the near future.

By the way, you make it sound very easy...I've been trying to resolve it for 18 of the last 24 hours! The solutions I have been offered would involve significantly more time than I have available to work on this :(

ChileanLlama Would I be allowed to set up a similar forum on my webspace?

Thanks.

I have no objections - it was an independent forum - created for the early adopters (sadly most of them have moved on now) which grew over the years. Though I've not decided what I will do with "UKTrainz.co.uk" so I'm not letting you have the name/domain ;) In my own opinion, it would be better to look at other forums already in place for the UK and concentrate on them, traffic and discussion on UKTrainz was steadily reducing anyway - so I guess this has just brought forward the inevitable.

I have considered re-initialising the forum software, but it would mean starting from scratch. Given I'm no longer active in the Trainz world, I didn't think that was the best way forward.

Finally, I'm afraid I don't have email addresses for everyone at UKTrainz, apologies that I have been unable to contact people individually and that the absence of the forum and this thread will be the first they hear about it.

So sad to hear this. I was AB 442 377 on there. I too thought it was a temporary problem, but after coming to it a few minutes ago, I realised it was dead. It was at the top of my Favourites column!

So many topics, snippets of information, screenshots...all gone.

:(

Hi all

This is terrible news and a big shame it can not be fixed. It was the best place to find all information to do with trainz content.

It would be great if someone with the know how could set up a new forum to continue the community spirt everyone had. I felt that things were coming along nicely with new content coming out regularly and experienced members on hand to help out others.

Great shame:( .

Gridler (gridler-49)

Totally agree gridler.

I've gained a lot from users like Tony (tmz06003) and love all of the custom content he has created or edited especially over the last year or so.

Going slightly off the subject gridler will you be uploading those Motherwell 37's or are they already in the system?

It's a sad day indeed with a wealth of Information lost .

Still life goes on and I'm sure we'll come to find a new home in which to roost .

Maybe Auran/N3V could give us Brits our own section on here much like the language sections ? ( I can see that comment causing some posts !!)

Many many thanks to ChileanLlama and Mike for the hard graft and money that they have ploughed into the forums over the years to keep it running. :)

RIP UKtrainz

Sorry to hear of the loss of the forum, I know I didn't post much but I did like to see new releases and that. Marky I hope you have more luck with the new forum :)

Thank you both CL for the forum, and Mike10 for the environment maintained therein.

I learnt a great deal via UKTrainz, as I'm sure many others did. I'm very sad to see it go in such an unforeseen manner, especially with the loss of a not insignificant quantity of information, but I can quite understand your reasoning.

As Nexus says, hopefully we can find another place to roost (otherwise I've got nothing to read at tea break time!) and all credit to Marky7890 for getting something up and running so quickly.

Regards,

Anthony

A big loss to the Trainz community, hopefully many members will reappear on Mark's new forum and that all is not lost.
