UK Screenshots (Hi Res Version)

Are yes it's the hidden textures in the .im file ploy :hehe: .
It's why the blue 304 reskins have an orange stripe and the 142's have a black section on the roof that can't be changed :o

Thats the one :) Trying to save a lot of processing on the graphics card just by sending raw polys to the card without textures, but then I found out this was a massively bad idea...! The theory was that the objects would render quicker, but then I did have a lot of materials. Now I know WHY soo many objects have fewer materials and places mapped on the texture page. :)

Good nes is that most of it should be very configurable. All the handrails and pipes have their own textures, the front handrails and MW equipment likewise and the like. Even the interior has its own skin.

Is it okay to say that WEN's 502 looks great or should I quote the screenshot too?

Sorry, can't help myself.

Nice job, WEN. Cravens progress update:

Started work on the interior. Hopefully this one should be a bit better than my shockingly bad unfinished effort built in to TS10/12...

We can't say the 502 is great without similarly praising that fantastic 105 now can we ;)

Just don't quote those screenies as there are 4 of them!

Superb work R3, the early 105 was great though, this one is even better.

What enginesound do you plan to use for the new one?

Thanks tmz06003.

I'm open to suggestions- I know that the earlier model sounds terrible, so I would really appreciate any ideas on more realistic engine and horn sounds.

Looking superb R3 . Would be nice if a way could be found to script the Gear handle so that it could be driven properly , If not could it at least be set up so it could be moved . I can pretend to drive it properly ;)

Fully understand WEN , I go back over some of my earlier work and it makes me cringe .
All in all it's shaping up to be year of the unit .

I'm not going to follow the BR Blue theme. I'm not going to change what I like to suit others.

I just love this loco!

Well, I'm showing off my I think, greatest achievement, the Class 502 which does get a lot better by the day and the detail gets better, then I can't stop drooling at the keyboard and you get the idea. I took this as a test shot as I am trying to get everything to not only look right but also match. Bump mapping is my next challenge, but I don't honestly know how I am going to be able to represent the dents and how am I going to be able to represent the paint strokes!
Yes, I know, I posted a screenshot for the sake of it. :-) There is another shot on my blog as well, have a ganders here: http://forums.auran.com/trainz/entry.php?225-Just-a-random-update

EDIT: What looks better? The shading on the left or the right?

WEN

It's difficult to tell from one shot which is better, possibly the one on the right (there is less shine on the underframe). I assume that it's a test colour rather than BR blue. Are you using m.tbumpenv? If so, you will need to experiment with the apha channels of both the diffuse and normal maps to find the best setting. Pure black in the alpha channel of the diffuse map will give a matt finish, whereas even a very dark grey will give a gloss effect that actually reflects the Trainz sky. A white alpha channel is full reflection, which is striking to say the least...

I've found that the easiest way to simulate minor panel imperfections is to make the normal map from a hand painted greyscale image. Spraying blotchy layers of dark and light grey onto the base grey can give quite a nice rippled panel finish when converted into the final normal map using the Nvidia Photoshop plug in, or PEV's tools. If you look very closely at the last batch of screenshots of my Cravens I think you can just pick up a slight bumpiness to the yellow front, which was achieved using this technique.
