Possibly, as far as I can tell or see the 450 is near enough the same as a 350 but the 450 has a shoe pickup connector instead of a pantograph. I've no doubt someone familiar with 450's can confirm or dismiss that fact! Will there be a possibility of doing a class 450 some where down the line at some point.
I think the seating is different. 450 is 3+2 and, as far as I can remember, 350s are 2+2 (been a while since I sent on one though). Otherwise basically the same, 450s even have an empty slot on the roof for a pantograph. I'm pretty sure 350s and 450s originate from the same order and were built together. 444s are also extremely similar but with a different door layout.Possibly, as far as I can tell or see the 450 is near enough the same as a 350 but the 450 has a shoe pickup connector instead of a pantograph. It would be easy to delete the panto and modify the DMCO bogies with a shoe connector.
Rob.
Thanks for that info Ed. I think some of the 350's, possibly the 350/2s are 3+2, not sure though, I've never travelled on one! Must be like riding in a sardine can for the passengers!I think the seating is different. 450 is 3+2 and, as far as I can remember, 350s are 2+2 (been a while since I sent on one though). Thanks for the info and the compliment. Am I correct in thinking that the 350/1's have all yellow gangway connector doors and the 350/2's,3's and 4's have half black and half yellow doors? That 350 is coming along very nicely Rob.
I regularly use the 450s. With their 2+3 seating, they were meant to be used on short suburban routes but found their way onto the long-distance Weymouth to Waterloo service. The 444s are much better in that respect. I suspect SWR use those on the Portsmouth Direct line. Such a shame they let the 442s go, so much more comfortable and a good layout of seats next to windows.
Kind regards,
Gary
