UK Screenshots (Hi Res Version)

A shed load from me + great screenies everyone

Uracco, I see you're using my NX hayden class 477/9 reskin (complete with retina-destroyingly bright interior). On the DLS there should be an updated version with better enginesounds and an interior thats much kinder on the eyes;).

Just a couple from me this time:

Hi All
A quick clarification, on top of Napierdeltic's reply.

We see no real issue with posting screenshots of an edited built-in, 3rd party created, route, so long as you do not intend on releasing the route. If you do intend to release the route, then you must obtain permission from the original creator before release. Generally there are restrictions, from us (N3V/Auran) on releasing edited versions of these routes, since they are built-in content in Trainz.

However, again, screenshots are permissible unless the original author has expressly stated otherwise. If the original author requests you to remove the screenshots, then it's best to do so, but we generally do not see any issue with posting screenshots of edited built-in routes.

Now, the 'British Midlands' route was bought up as well... This is an Auran built, built-in route. We have not placed any restrictions on redistributing it, and considering it's age, we see no issue with this.

Regards

Thanks, Zec, so much for the quick response to my PM to you yesterday.

Your answer clarifies the situation well and I see now that the false belief that screenshots of modified routes (or other assets) may not be posted under any circumstances was due to a past case (of which I was unaware) where an author reserved these rights to him/her-self as is his/her right under copyright law (to state the uses to which his/her work may be used).

I wanted also to apologise to 'tmz06003' (on behalf of us all) for any hurt he may have felt. But we should all be aware that the misunderstanding gave us the opportunity to consult on this important (and obviously emotive) matter. It was the opinions that were in conflict, not the individuals and from that conflict of opinions came the spark of truth (which we might not have found otherwise).

Now, lets get back to posting UK screenshots (including those of routes modified for our own use as long as we are not aware that the author has not stated that we should not).

Peter.

I'll start then, if thats okay by everyone.

This is a new route that I created called "Chapham". It's a small two board layout servicing a railway station and small factory with connections to a portal inside a tunnel. It should be on the DLS in a short while and 95% of assets are built in to TS12.

You've also quoted my statement "I'm not sure" should have made it crystal clear to everyone that I wasn't replying in any official capacity whatsoever or implying anything. I was innocently asking for it to be checked, nothing else. The rest of the posts weren't necessary and totally inflamed the situation. All that was needed was to wait for the official replies which we have now got or for the OP to check himself which is to err on the safe side which would have saved me from receiving an unwarranted personal barrage which is what I am concerned about.

My post was based on previous problems that we have actually had re. ECML screenshots, I know of this history which is why I rightly raised this issue and asked Stuart to check, which he has and replied. He has also said to me I was right to raise the issue.

Agreed it is a relevant discussion, it's also very relevant as it shows how quickly someone can be set upon by the wolves for merely innocently asking for something to be checked. This is the issue that I feel I have to raise, even though it's a screenshot thread it is very important.

There is nothing personal in this at all Anthony, no falling out or other bad feeling, all I'm making a point of is showing the effect of the aftermath.

Tony - this is what you said, unedited: "let him know what you are doing before posting any other screenshots as I'm not sure what the score is with these."

I read that as implying that the OP likely needed permission to post screenshots of his modified version of the ECML. If I have misunderstood that I apologise, unreservedly.

It turns out (happily) that it is not the case and at no point did I say you were responsible for any such policy - merely that if it existed, then it was a sad state of affairs. Given your close association and excellent contributions to the ECML project, you were likely to know what the policy was.

I'm sorry we seem to have fallen out over it.

To everyone else, I'll post some screenies soon to make amends - this is a relevant discussion though as it very much affects what can or can't be posted here.

Regards,

Anthony

Again yes screenshots thread and all that but I think it's important that I say to you there's no problem over this at all, and I'm fully agreed with your summary below and I'm pleased I've been allowed to answer here and explain my original post.

Yes it's a minefield as there are several ECML builders including myself who could potentially ban modded screenshots quite rightly being original route builders, even more so that I've helped out on other sections and others have helped on mine!! Best not to give that too much thought....

Maybe Zec's and/or Stuart's post could be added to the screenshot posting guidelines unless the content is in there already?

Thanks, Zec, so much for the quick response to my PM to you yesterday.

A couple from the Glauston domestic line

A pair of Class 395 `Javelins` idle on Platforms 3&4

The same 395's from behind the barriers. The one on the right is the train I just arrived on from the Airport, and the one on the left is the one I'm taking to see family in Radcott.

Time for a quick bit of spotting! A 319 coasts into Plat 1 as a 395 departs 2.

My train departs, as another rushes through at 140mph.

A 477 seen through the windscreen of my car, as yet another 395 hurtles through.

Napierdeltic,
thankyou for clarifying this matter, this has come as a great relief to me, & will have reassured scores of `trainzers`that their creativity can be shown worldwide.
By authorising folk to display their ECML work the way is now open for us all to bounce ideas off each other which could ultimately lead to further extensions such as Sandy - Oxford/Cambridge, & Northallerton - Hawes, & also to enhance the route with even more fine detail.
Another important upshot of this is that other route creators will be encouraged to to adopt a similar policy regarding screenies, & this can only lead to an increase in the games popularity.

I must also thank all of you who posted on this subject, firstly
Tmz06003, you quite rightly pointed out that consultation with the original creator is essential, &, it served as a warning for all of us that some other route builders out there may well take a more draconian view of these screenies. I did feel for you being in the middle of all this controversy, but I think that the content of the replies expressed a genuine passion amongst dedicated members who wish to develop Trainz.

Peterwise, 2995Valliant, Kennilworth, Paulsw2, 4ndylloyd, I appreciated your support in favour of screeny freedom & it has shown all the readers of this thread that the enthusiasm for Trainz & the interest in what other members are creating is really strong. Being a middle aged technophobe who cannot TRANSDEM, reskin, nor create any content I was flattered by the comment by 2995Valliant `I would be recruiting the OP`. A very nice compliment especially as I`m having to resort to rekindled Meccano skills, vague memories, books & maps. ( Even took a while to figure out how to post that undersize screeny that caused all of this correspondence).

Overall I just hope that a lot of good has come out of the past 3 days but I still cannot believe that my first screeny would have started so many posts.

Kind Regards to all

Hi Victorian,
I am working on a 380 over on the British Trainz forum. It is currently with Dave so he can work his magic on it to fix any errors etc.
