UK Screenshots (Hi Res Version)

Shame on you for closing that branch line! The spirit of Dr Beeching lives on..or should it be Dr Mezzoprezzo?

Aagh ... the fat controller!

I’m not entirely sure I want to be compared with him. He upset a lot of us 1950/60s train spotters (resplendent in school caps and short trousers). So much changed in such a short time.

I’m just grateful that I was alive at a time when the 9f’s were running and I’d go and watch them, and lots of GWR and SR steam trains, near where I used to live. I’m also grateful that I’ve survived long enough to experience Trainz where I can re-create a few old memories - and open and close lines at will! What a great sim this is!

@ Mezzoprezzo
I think the bottom screenshot of the country lane is great. Could you please tell me what route it is from so I can see if I can find it on the DLS.

Thanks for your kind words Scottish.

That Route, and the one where the "old" shot was taken, are both little doodles of mine and have not been uploaded for distribution on the DLS, or anywhere else. They are still “works in progress” - a seemingly never ending task (like most of our routes I reckon!)

Cheers

Hey, you've read my mind. I've just got the maps for it. I wish I could DEM it, but I can't. Many thanks for the comment btw. Dave

I'll add mind reading to my CV. Hehe. Fear not, as I said, it'll be done using DEMs as soon as I get the vector information added. It's a learning curve and a half. My head hurts.

Hi pfx

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm not sure whether DEM data is freely available for the UK. If so, can you please point me to a source of UK DEM data.

Thanks,

Rob.

@mezzoprezzo

Thanks for replying. After seeing your screenshots I quickly searched the DLS for any of your routes but it would appear that you do not upload any of them. The lane looked so realistic, I had to study it in great detail to convince myself that it was not a photograph. You have a new fan and if you ever make your 'doodles' or maps available, let me know.

Which reminds me, has anyone done the Inverness - Kyle of Lochalsh route? Having purchased TransDEM, I was considering that route as my first attempt with a DEM map.

I travelled this route in the steam era and within the last few years I have followed parts of it by car where road and rail meet in places. I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of this line that I managed to find a DVD covering the entire route filmed from the drivers cab and helicopter. A DEM map would be a unique challenge but would be a lot of work.

I think it would be a superb trainz map, and I think you would enjoy making it.

Well done all, some very nice shots. I could do with those piers Dr Mezzoprezzo :D but I can't get onto the DLS. I made a mistake and registered twice.

I've just added this bridge to the layout. It is made up of FMA UK viaduct wall steel and Stone Retaining Wall Dirty. If enough folks are interested to know how it's done I'll upload to the Tips & Tricks thread, even though I did a similar one with AJS Portal wing wall. Dave. EDIT - I might change the pier to a conventional one or treat it as two bridges and add walls where the pier should be. Note - There are four men standing on the road at different intervals where the spline points are. This was to establish the height of the road (head height) correctly.

Already did that a LONG time ago.Try tmzo600s's "Bridge Girder Kits" for the girders - there's more variety and two girder widths. You can get a much better appearance from the centre pier if you face the sloping edges towards each other and jiggle them about till they overlap so you only see perpendicular sides....

Haven't time to finish this tonight, but I think I'm going have it like this. The loading gauge shows the girder is out the way.

I just love this road, you can't see through it when it's suspended over track.

Dave,

Nice shots of your current project!

You can get the pillar (just one of Kilanziom’s many fine pieces of work) as a direct, and free, download from Polish Trainz Team. The site is a great source of brilliant assets from those Eastern European artists.

Filar Mostowy Zmurszaly – kuid:173943:200374 - here’s the link: http://www.trainz.org/ptt/_download/tory/tory_most_blachownicowy02_lubachow.html

There are a lot of old bridge and trackside “post Beeching” areas that are now just overgrown and targets for fly tippers and graffiti artists.

Here’s my take on it, with a view from the other side of the old bridge on my route.

The graffiti being painted by the totally misguided lad at the top of the ladder is not suitable for display here:o . However, it forms part of an interesting little cameo when viewed from the static trackside camera on the other side!

Cheers

"Here's one I made earlier". One of the first things I did when I got TC3 was rebuild it to my own tastes. At Skipton I built a casing of Stone Retaining Wall Dirty round the (object) bridge, laid a Spline road on top of the solid road then deleted the original bridge leaving this. The builtin bridge was too clean and I alsways associate this area with chimnies and dirty stonework (sorry Skiptonians  )
BTW Mezzoprezzo are graffiti vandals so well organised in your part of the world that they have VANS and LADDERS?

No, we don’t have too many problems like that in our part of the world. I was basing the scene on Yorkshire!:D

I have heard tell that the vehicles and ladders are all stolen, offence committed and the incriminating evidence dumped, and/or torched, prior to the police responding.

BTW, is that white jag going over the bridge in your last shot the local constabulary on a response and investigation mission?

Late they may be, but at least they bothered in those days!

Nice cameo, mezzoprezzo. Is that ladder on the dls?

Taking a couple of days off, so have been spending some quality time putting the finishing touches on my representation of the Cantley sugar factory. Just need to finish the HGV unloading area and add as many details as decent frame rates will allow:

Veeery nice shot rumour3. Great landscaping into the far distance!

I presume the ladders are still on the DLS. They were when I downloaded both of them some time ago, but I can no longer get in to have a look,
They are by Dinorius_Redundicus. Top quality, like all of Deane’s assets:

Ladder 01 – kuid 2:68213:26004:1 (single, as on van roof in the cameo)

Ladder02 – kuid 2:68213:26005:1 (double, extended - as used against the wall)

Thanks Casper- should have realised they were Deane's excellent work.

The draw distance is one of the things about 2010 I really like. All trees in the scene are Speedtrees- even those in the far distance. Surveyor reports over 5,000 Speedtree instances in this view, and I'm getting comfortably in excess of 30 fps on my laptop (Geforce GT 330M, Core i5, 4GB ram, Win7 64 bit) with all sliders set to max.

Cheers
