UK Passengers. Can it be done?

Hello,

I am not an overly-experienced Trainz surveyor, but have recently discovered the Old West Passengers, and the stations and rolling stock that use them. It has been a great expansion of my Trainz enjoyment.

Now, I also know that there are some 1890 UK Passenger models which can be used by modifying the config.txt of Andi06 stations and also the config.txt in the rolling stock.

This sounds like it will be hard, but possibly do-able job for me. Can anyone here tell me more about this? I have searched the forums for 1890 UK Passenger, and have not come up with anything.

Best wishes, Bob P.

What would you like to know about them?

Well. First I must say that JohnWhelan is the person that made these available for us on the DLS. That would be you, no? And, they are also based on some good work done by BobSanders, Elvenor, Shoves, and others.

So, my questions would be... I read that somebody modified an Andi06 station to test these. Did this become available on the DLS? I have looked for it. If not, I will will have to modify an Andi06 station. I imagine that the config.txt is in the KUID folder for the station, no?

Then, I must find a UK passenger car which has an editable config file. For some unknown reason, I have been very lucky finding modern UK passenger-enabled stock, but not so lucky finding, for instance, Crimson & Creams that are better than the stock Auran ones (in 2004 and 2006). So I will ask, are the config files in the built-in ones editable?

And, if I modify them, they will be saved with possibly my KUID number? I mean, they will not ruin the original? I am an absolute amateur at this, though I did change a Class 08 interior once!

Or I could additionally ask... Are there some user-designed passenger-enabled UK passenger cars from the era the people are living in? That is it for now!! Signed, Robert.

It was done to see if it could be done.

I'll put do a write up on how to use them in the wiki one day.

The way I'd go would be to clone any assets to your own kuid first.

Now look at <kuid2:86627:1731:3> and look at the queues. Note how it can accept three different types of passenger.

Copy this queue bit into anything else you want to passenger enable. You may have to add a few kuid numbers to the table at the end.

Any passenger active station can use different passenger sets. Just change the kuid for the passenger set.

Ok John, and Thank you for your wonderful help! I cloned an AJS Invisible Station and looked at the config, and saw roughly this:

kuid-table {
passenger <kuid:-3:10060>
codelib <kuid:122285:3499>
0 <kuid:122285:4089>
1 <kuid:122285:3495>
2 <kuid:122285:3496>
3 <kuid:122285:1003>
4 <kuid:122285:1002>
5 <kuid:-3:10164>
I'm wondering if this is the section that assigns the passengers?

Also, I downloaded your GWR 1923 50ft Brake. (fine-looking passenger car, very crisp and high-res. Nice work from you!) And I cloned that, and looked at the config. Part of which said roughly this....
queues {
load0 {
passenger-queue 1
size 36
allowed-products {
0 <kuid:86627:1799>
1 <kuid:86627:1842>
2 <kuid:-3:10060>
I'm wondering if this is the place where I would put the KUID of your 1890 UK Passengers?

Remember, I am a complete beginner here, so forgive me if I am a little slow in understanding this.:'( Thanks again! Bob P.

Also..are those 0,1,2,3,4,and so on, the numbers of individual passengers, or sets of passengers? And that "codelib", what is that?

One of the problems with passenger sets is the impact they have. Trainz has an equivalent load of 300 polys per mesh and 200 polys per texture file. So proper passenger sets use a single texture file between all the figures and a poly count of say 4-500 polys per person. The 1890 passenger set is a collection of recycled passengers so lots of texture files I think one passenger has about six texture files alone so it isn't especially efficient and I won't like to say how many polys each passenger was either.

Well, I followed the links you gave, which lead to a few other links on the subject, Thanks!

But still a question remains in my head, How did Pencil42 (or whoever created it) manage to make a Western Passenger system, with at least one passenger station (Virginia City Passenger Depot) and a few Western passenger cars (W & A RR 34' Coach) that seems to work very well, even in 2006 SP1.

And does not mess up other stations in 2006?

It's just a question mark to me ??? I hope I can succeed with the UK Passengers, but reading those other posts by the creators of the objects, it seems slightly impossible !!

Ah well, Hope Springs Eternal !! Brother Bob. :cool:

If you create a station then you can also specify the product, in this case a passenger set. Andi06 came up with a set of invisible stations that could be placed over other stations to save having to do all the scripting etc required for a normal station which is fine as far as it goes.

Chris and I had the passenger set working quite nicely on a test layout but the difficulty came in trying to make a general case. So clone a station then change the passenger kuid number works not too badly. Andi06 does some quite clever things with his stations and it was sorting out the clever things that caused the problems. I'm not certain if anyone ever did sort it all out.

Ok John, thanks for your input on this, I hope I'll be trying to work on this cloned Andi06 station, and the clone of your passenger car and see if I can make some of my own UK passenger stations and passenger cars.

Who knows, I might accidently accomplish it, and I'll be able to see real UK passengers in my Harcourt's and other UK routes.....

Wish me luck. I think much luck will be needed! Bob P. :o
