UK E-Specs Locos & Rolling Stock Question

Could someone with better knowledge than me of the above ( would not be hard ). :hehe:

Explain how these new specifications for locos & stock, be used in conjunction with each other.

I ask, as i saw this on the DLS......................

Description:
A steam enginespec for TC3 and above for the GWR King class. This will perform most accurately if used with Stovepipe's e-specs for British rolling stock. Thanks to Barrie Spence for his tireless help and collaboration.

Is this saying that all rolling stock that i use with any locomotive that has a new E-Spec, should all be converted to use their own E-Specs.

To give greater realism and physics behaviour ?

On a different note4, N3V we need a seperate Physics Forum, please. Where all these types of posts can be grouped together.

Everything that moves in Trainz has an enginespec. For wagons etc. this sort of defines friction and other forces that act to slow the wagon down.

The default N3V enginespecs I think are for US multi axle rolling stock but Stovepipe has created some which are much closer to proper UK items.

Some content creators use Stovepipe's enginespecs some use the older defaults. If you'd like a bit more realism then switch them all to the appropriate Stovepipe one. Having said that one payware creator has said most of his customers use the DCC method rather than the cab method.

TC3 allowed steam locos to more closely follow prototype behaviour and quite a lot of effort has gone into creating new enginespecs for steam locos. Each one is tailored to a particular loco so its not something you can switch around easily and retain the characteristics of the loco.

Cheers John,

i wasn't sure if the switch to the new specs was worth the effort.

So you are saying that, yes. The physics and realism is greately improved by employing the updated ones ?

Obviously the loco specs are worthwhile, but to mod all the coaching stock and goods wagons i use, will be a lot of work. ;)

Appreciate the info.

If you're only using UK items you could just create a new version of the defaults and cut and paste Stovepipe's enginespec in.

Hello IKB,

A bit of background why I made the especs to help you decide which to use.

When TC3 came out I got a bit fed up with not being able to drive the diesels over the S&C in CAB mode at realistic speeds, they were all much too slow. At first I thought it was the loco spec, but I then realised that the loco spec were largely correct but the rolling stock all used the "default-wagon" espec which was not really suitable for UK stock.

So I made the coach and wagon especs using data for actual timed runs over the two main prototypical routes we have in Trainz - the S&C and ECML.

So if you like to CAB drive on prototypical routes or fictional routes with proper gradients, then I would say it is worth changing the especs over. If you are purely a DCC man then it probably isn't worth it, - though I would say you are missing out on some of the possibilities within Trainz.

cheers

Hi stovepipe,

many thanks for posting mate and the extra info.

I always knew the Class 40`s in the S&C addon were underpowered.

But i don't know how the numbers used in the engine specs, are interpreted in regards tthe real world specifications. So i was never able to correct the default ones.

Always CAB mode, when i drive. So i will definitely be using your files. :)

Many thanks for creating them and making them available.

regards,
Mike.
