Two Questions from a Newbie

I have a couple of questions. First,I have Trainz Simulator 2009 from Just Trains. Is this the World Builder edition or a different version?

Second question, well it's more of a problem really. We recently bought a new computer which runs Windows 7 64bit. Trainz runs fine on it but when I download the kuids that are missing from a download they download and install fine but when I restart trainz these kuids have disappeared. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it just a Windows 7 problem? This problem never happened on our old Windows XP PC.

I hope that makes some sort of sense!

Thanks in advance for any replies!

OK, I can answer both questions for you.

Answer to question 1: The Just trains version is one of the regional copies of Trainz (it is still the World Builder edition) , and as such, the updating process is slightly different.

The first update is available at http://justtrains.net/faqs.asp?drdProduct=205#Update393.

Once you are patched to build 40040, you will be able to use the Auran patch to get you to build 41844: http://download.ts2009.com/Beta/40040_to_41844.exe.

You will probably find a DirectX update will be needed, and that you will have to turn off your antivirus software during the install and patching.

Answer to Question 2: Windows 7 has a different security model, which means you have to run programs slightly differently.

To do this:

On the Trainz shortcut

1.Right-click the Trainz shortcut on the desktop.
2.Click Properties.
3.Click Compatibilty.
4.Click the box labelled 'Run as administrator', then click OK.

When running the patches

You may need to right-click the patch and click 'Run as Administrator'.

Thanks for the help Shane! :Y: But I'm afraid I might need some more.:'( When I install the first patch (38869 to 40040) it stops about halfway through and says;

Failed to apply the patch: 38869_to_40040
Patching aborted.

What should I do now?

Thanks again in advance for any replies!

Patching aborted.

Is it worth reinstalling trainz?

Yes - that usually only happens after a failed patch attempt, or one that is cancelled half-way through.

What it may be worth doing though is to check the build number at the bottom right of the Launcher - if it is 40040, then you may already have the first patch.

(just to let you know, if you get an error relating to DirectX 9.0C (August 2009) not being present, see http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=58843 for instructions to rectify this)

I think I'll leave my version un-patched as I've reinstalled Trainz and tried the patch again and it failed again. Thanks very much for your help and time.

Yay!

I decided to reinstall Trainz on the older XP PC and the patch worked! I'll wait untill the Trainz website is live again before I download the second one! Also I wont have the annoying disappearing downloads, double Yay!

It seems to be working OK on my side so you should be able to download and install the second patch OK (just remember to turn off your antivirus software during the patch, then turn it back on after the patch) - you may have to do an extended database repair in Content Manager after the patches.
