Two girls killed by train in Utah

When will people learn that the best photos and videos are taken from high up, safe vantage point, 50'-100' from a track, and very distant from a grade crossing ... some of the most boring, most dangerous, videos/pictures are taken down low/right next to passing trains ... this unsafe practice, and trespassing on RR private property, resulted in their deaths.

Maybe it's just me but from an early age my friends and I would walk for miles on the tracks while walking our hound dog. We were ALWAYS aware of the trains and this was on a busy double track mainline. We were never caught by surprise by any train movements and we were pre-teens. I just can't understand how someone can be taken surprise by a train?

Track bed quality has improved a lot. 30 years ago we were never surprised by trains either, you could hear the track pinging when the trains were about a mile away, giving you at least half a minute, but more usually 40-45 seconds, to get clear of the line.

These days I've noticed that track pinging can start when the train is only a couple of hundred feet away. And even when the track does ping, its far quieter than it used to be.

Why would people commit this kind of stupidities? I mean, taking pictures inside the train track... Like really... Are you ****ing dumb? And what is worse is that you have 2 people taking pictures and the other one, what was doing? He/She could have perfectly told both of them to get off from the rails!

Society goes worse for moments. :(

It's a sad story, and I completely understand letting the viewfinder take over situational awareness. Sadly, the third girl should have acted as lookout for such a situation, but they should never have been on the tracks in first place.
