John, I'm disappointed. What about blender?

Butter, if you have never used GMax, it may be best to stay away from it and try Blender instead. For some one just starting out in 3d creation, it seems that most find blender to be "superior". Check out the fantastic tutorials by Paul Hobbs at:

http://www.44090digitalmodels.co.uk/

While on Paul's web site, check out his excellent tutorials on skinning and if you choose to try GMax, Paul has some of the best Trainz related GMax tutorials around.

Have fun,

Bricey.

That thread has the Blender tutorials in it as well.

On the subject of Blender we've been playing and appear to have both normal and bump maps working in TC3, why would you use anything else, unless you have 3ds available of course.

Actually, the only reason I am not using blender now is the fact that I had a small windfall and so invested the $3900 in 3ds2009. GMax was so ingraned in my mind that I just couldn't switch over to blender. I struggled with it for months until I finally found Paul's tutorials. If I was starting fresh, never having used GMax, I would have picked up on blender but..... Well, they say it is tough to teach old dogs new tricks......:hehe:

Of course, the downside for me recommending blender is I will not be help anyone with it. Oh well.......:(

Have a great one,

Bricey
