turnout throw distance

on the old forum there was a "tutorial" on how to shorten distance a train could be away from a turnout before you could switch it, does anyone remember how to do it??

thanks

Hi,

In TRS2006 it works "always", in TRS2004 it only work when using F2 to jump into Driver, and only in that session you are in.
How to do it:

Find the track tooltab
Enter the "3rd tab", the one with the trackmarks/triggers in it.
Find the Questionmark tool - use that to click on the junction.
Set the trigger radius you want.

That is how I remember it, hopefully I remember it right. :)

Best of luck

Linda

In TRS2006 Surveyor, select Track (F4) then Track Mode (V) then click the advanced bar. The 3 icons are, left to right, get trig radius, set trig radius and adjust trig radius. Using the 3rd option point click and slide the mouse up and down to adjust the trig radius in meters.

Hi,

I did post a message on the old forums about drivers taking control of turnouts/switches so far away that they effect the rest of the drivers, like they could be 4,000 meters away from a turnout/switch when they take switch it and take control.

Anyways, the idea that someone posted (can't remember who now sorry) was to place a trackmark about 500-1,000 meters before turnouts/switches and in the drivers commands do a 'drive via trackmark' command. This way the drivers will drive via that trackmark 'before' taking control of a turnout/switch.

I found this to work most of the time, but sometimes it didn't, hope that made sense so you could understand... :)

yup that did it, thanks!

I realize this is an old thread but the issue of distance from the points has come up for me again. I do remember in 1.3 the wheels only had to just clear the switchblades on trailing points before you could change them and set back over them. With the "improved" 04 you have to travel an engine length clear before they free up. :(
This "improvement" becomes a real pain when shunting. That engine length clear has to be added to any sidings or backshunts and it is just plain dumb and unprototypical. In real life I have seen shunters wait for the wheel flange to just clear before changing the points; that's close!
From what I can garner from this thread the only way we can change the radius for the points is to do it for each individual set of points and only in each session; any idea how many points there are in a typical layout? :'(
There must be some way the radius can be reset globally - perhaps this is an opportunity for someone to come up with a radius rule?:o

Cheers

Just clear??? I've been the shunter/signalman at the EKR and I enforce the "get-the-hell-out-of-my-line-of-sight" rule. If I can't see the points from my position behind the lever frame, then they don't get thrown espcially considering they have no detection on them.

Actually I'm talking specifically of the ground shunting staff and in areas where there are the non-interlocked points like in yards or loco depots. :) Points operated by lever frames or in motorized interlocked areas could not be changed until the vehicles were clear of a specific place frequently adjacent to the signal that protected those points and the old style lever frame points (usually with a Woods lock key) would not be changed until the vehicles were way clear.
Read my first post again Harry. I do mention the radius thing being a pain WHEN SHUNTING. I have had enough scares and close calls with signal protected points not to muck around with them in trainz...

...but I digress. :hehe:

Is it possible to formulate a rule that will set the radius globally in a session?
