TurfFX - rectangular area -- how to?

I'm able to define a rectangular area using the TurfFX flyout. But no matter what I do I can't get any grass to grow.

Do I have to change the weather to rain or stormy for the grass to appear?

Seriously, what's the next few steps after drawing the rectangle?

First you have spray the weeds with RoundUp®, to kill them, then run the Trainz cultivator over the area, then till the soil with a rake to smooth it out, then apply grass seed and rake it under by 1/2", then you have to water it for weeks, and constantly shoo the birds away from the grass seeds ... then after all your hard work, all the weeds move back in, and take over the entire lawn, choking out all your flora :hehe: Or you can buy a 100 lb bag of white clover seeds, and create a vast field of 3 leaf clover, (good for the honey bees thus preventing BCC Bee Colony Collapse)

I agree, the TurFX UI is absolutely terrible and needs to be re-worked to be user friendly. I can't answer your question because I haven't been able to figure it out myself.

Using the circle method, I can apply the many types of TrufFX but it is very distance dependent. Too far away and it doesn't appear. Still have to study the various parameters in the TurfFX menu. Haven't tried the rectangular method yet but I suppose it should behave the same way.

Unfortunately it don't. It must be possible 'cause there are some rectangular areas in the new Kickstarter.

Oh well, maybe cascade's suggestion is worth a try.

The turf default values will be slightly different in the next update which will help but this is how you get your turf to work using the square fill tool.

Thanks. The video gave me the one piece of critical information that I needed - slider has to be at the extreme right. Any other setting and it don't work.

That isn't correct. It depends on the data binding set. If it is Int4 then you have 4 bits of precision to play with for density, meaning if the slider was 0-25% you would get nothing, 25-50% you'll get a little density, 50%-75% you get more density and 75%-100% it will be full density.

I would have thought that 4 bits of precision would provide 16 levels of density, not 4. One bit of precision provides 2 levels, which is what OP is seeing.

After watching the Youtube video, "Trainz - Content Creation - #37 - Turf Effects (part 2) - Parameters Explained" and then trying some of it myself, WOW. Makes all of the old ground texture effects pretty anemic. Then add in some of the new clutter and none of the routes will be complete without them.

Can't wait to see some of the routes that our scenery masters produce but with these two effects.

"Makes all of the old ground texture effects pretty anemic." Absolutely.

"... none of the routes will be complete without them." Add "old routes" and I agree again, absolutely. It's what I've been saying ever since I tried the beta TRS19. Any route not constructed in TRS19 now looks just so dated.

"Can't wait to see some of the routes ... ." I think at this stage I might be the only person with a TRS19 route (the new TRS19 procedural track, TurfFX textures, SpeedTrees) on the DLS. Have you tried "TRS19 - The Mann, Phrom, Laramee RR - Model Trainz Layout"?

For those not fluent in German (or Google) ...

hello, yesterday I tried the new feature and created a map with it. impractical I find that there are no thumbnails for the selected lawn and that the self-made profiles are only valid for the edited map

Does this constitute a troll? It makes a (very very funny) mockery of what is essentially the sole reason for the existence of Tr19 and its subscription service!

From all the comments looks like everyone paid out for a turf simulator that dont work

Q When will the grass grow
A Soon !

I thought cascade's comment was absolutely hilarious and I really appreciated the time and effort he took to compose it.

big-g --

I've got the turf growing now in rectangular areas. I followed cascade's instructions. What he omitted to say is that the turf only grows when the moon is in the third quarter and Venus is in ascension. (Actually it was Chris who provided the critical information.)

So how does one change the dispersal outside of the square or circle tool? I always end up with grass all over my track which is well outside the rectangle or circle I'm working with. (the smallest I can choose)
