Turffx listed as payware

Howdy folks; Just playing around on my route and I tried out turffx and it is listed as payware in dependencies but still shows up if you select "no payware" in content search when building. Anyway, was wondering, is turffx included in all TRS19, so anyone with TRS19 will be able to use the route, or is it special editions? Would like to know before I use it in the route which I hope to UL to the DLS.

Thanks.

It's one of the main features of TRS19, so it's part of the game, and not a CM item. Not sure if you can have a setting saved as an asset, never even tried that, yet.

Thank you; I was worried, didn't want to build a route with payware, I fell for that one before, DL'd a route and then had to delete it.

In the Plus version, we can create and save TurfFX assets for use later on. These are the ones I created and saved for use on my routes so I don't need to keep recreating them.

<kuid:124863:101826> turffx - Long Grass
<kuid:124863:101832> turffx - Long Green Grass 2
<kuid:124863:101833> turffx - Long Yellow Grass 2
<kuid:124863:101827> turffx - turffx - Long Grass --- Green Grass

There's no reason why these can't be uploaded to the DLS and shared with others if I wanted to, I don't think.

Hi John; Will have to look into creating and saving, not that I need them so far, so far I have just used JVC grass and stuff since I have read guys complaining about turffx killing the FPS, so I am sort of afraid to use them.

Hi Chris,

I have found that if you treat the TurfFX grass like you do the splines, meaning you place the grass as you would the splines and don't go overboard with it, the framerates are pretty good. I did find that on really, really big routes, it can cause performance issues and then you need to pick and choose and even use the TurfFx grass in places where you want to show it off and splines elsewhere where it's not as prominent. For one route in particular, I have done as you have and used the bog-standard JVC grass with great success because it's not overly thick and doesn't look like paper cutouts.

I was looking at my route again, just started working on it, about 6 BB long, I think the turffx would work well around the industry buildings, then when just running the line use spline. The problem with spline is you can sort of tell they are lines of grass.

Yeah, that is an issue with the splines. The grass would work fine on a 6 BB. I used it on a much larger route without issues. I didn't go hog wild and only went in about 20 or 30 meters beyond the track. When putting down the grass, I found it looks thinner than it is because not all is drawn until you stop painting it in. You can also blend the splines into the grass too if you want for extra weeds or other plants. If anything, I recommend setting up a test route and experiment.

No, it is only 6BB so far that I have done (Trenton Nova Scotia power plant). I just tried the grass turffx, to be honest I like the spline grass better, it is easier to work with, put exactly where you want it and cozy up to the track. I can see using the clutter instead of placing rocks and such, but for grass I am not sold. Could be just because I am new to using it, but so far I am old school.

It does take some getting used to. What I don't like about it is it's vertex based and tends to "grow" into places where we don't want it like textures do. I've only used it a couple of times myself and usually use the old-fashioned splines. You can always change to the grass if you want at a later time if you want so it's not a once and forever type situation.

I noticed the spline thing, I tried going small as possible but got a glowing red spline, had to set it to level 2 I think to get it to paint. And once again, they use a round brush for a square map...sigh.

I tried the spline-thing once, it works okay. You can also mix the two so you can have other weeds and brush in with the procedural grass.

The red circle means your brush is too small, or the number value is incorrect. There are some defaults you can try, or you can try these here for starters. These are my basic grass settings that work well.

Thanks for that John. I don't get those dialogue boxes at all, I just use the basic window: pick an asset, set width and paint. I will try your settings and let you know.
